Default Please...have a laugh at my expense...

So, I go to the gym this afternoon to take my usual Monday spin class. Get changed and lock up the locker. I realize that my car keys are out on the bench so, being lazy, I think "eh, I'll go use the restroom and put them away on the return trip."

Go into the stall and place my towel and keys up on top of the toilet paper dispenser (hey, it's a flat surface). What happens next is nothing short of the type of synchronicity that only happens in the movies....

I flush and then reach for the stall door handle. As I reach, my hip brushes my towel. I hear what sounds like my keys hitting the floor. I spin around and look down. Drops of water dot the seat. The unthinkable has just happened...

I flushed my keys down the toilet!

I am on hands and knees, scouring the floor, thinking, "no, this can't happen..." but it is futile. They did in fact get flushed. I think this is actually quite amusing and funny, even! I laugh

The story ends up okay...I go upstairs and ask the guy behind the desk to use the phone because "I just flushed my keys"...he looks at me, not sure whether to laugh or be serious. Dan happens to be on his way (sort of) to the gym too...he turns around to get my spare car key. Supposedly, the maintenance man will come by the gym tomorrow to see if he can snake them out...I think they may be stuck close enough for him to reach...keep your fingers crossed (though I'm not sure I'll want to use them if he does get them out)

edit: my apt key, common room key, and mailbox key were on there too. The part I'm most gonna miss, though, is my Intense keychain!!

Magnets baby, on a really long snake (Assuming it hasn't gone past the p-trap). Those flush valves are powerful!
I hope they put an out of order sign on the door after you notified them. You might not want your keys back otherwise.

Yes, I got an out of order sign from the front desk, taped it on the door, and crawled under the door to lock it from the inside...I have my thinking cap on ...at least now I do...

I 'almost' know how you feel. While at the Fall Nationals drag race at Pomona a couple years ago, I went to use the restroom (Andy Gump of course). I had my Sigma 30 f/1.4 lens in a belt pouch, and had to undo my belt to use the facility. As I stand up I hear 'clunk!' and turn around to see my $400 lens precariously sitting next to the 'hole of death'

This always begs the question: Would you have tried to fish it out ?

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry accidently knocks his girlfriend's toothbrush in the toilet and 'hesitates' to tell her until after she used it...

BTW: Thanks for sharing!

I'd forget about them if I were you. You know where those things have been! Every time you start your car, you'll be thinking about it.

"the hole of death." That was hilarious.
So it was next to, not in the hole of death? And if it was in would you?

Steph, hope you get your keys back.

Did the same thing once at Yoga Works. It was definitely one of those power flush toilets. They were down and flushed before I knew what was happening. The car, the alarm and the house keys. I didn't try to get them back. Good luck with yours if you still want them back?
