Default NBR: AT&T Phones

It's that time of the 2nd year again! I need to upgrade my phone and I am an AT&T subscriber. What phones does everyone suggest? Not the iPhone. I am not a big fan, especially because of the internal battery.

What's wrong with the internal battery with the IPhone.

Wifi?
Camera?
Video?
Battery life?
Size?
Texting?
Simplicity?

I believe it isn't consumer serviceable (i.e. you can't replace it yourself)

Pointer: External antennas get better reception for the most part. That "a cell phone is only as good as the network its on" propaganda is BS. There's something called RX gain. The best reception I've seen on a GSM based handset was on the blackberry 7200s, believe it or not.

I think he means integrated battery. Batteries are maintenance items. remember this fiasco? You trust apple products? Besides, i think its kinda bullyish to disable EVERY function of the iphone unless its on the air with a plan?

Also, For those who don't know, what the carriers won't tell you when you go in and say "I just want a phone for emergencies" is that any and every handset in working condition is required by the FCC to be able to dial 911. plan or no plan.

They have a feature that lets you compare phones side by side based on the features you want.

Of all the phones I had, I have never had to replace the battery because of it not holding a charge. Mine typically last 3 yrs before something breaks or gets worn out.

Looking for like a PDA/phone thing. I need to be more efficient with my time so a good calander function would be something I am looking for. (24 hours in a day is not really enough these days).

Oh yeah, and I don't want to spend all my money on the phone (another reason against the iPhone) and I am not looking for my phone to use for music. Just communication (texting and calling) and I want it to help with organization/tasks, that kind of thing.

I picked the Sony Ericsson-

Has all the features of the other phones but the battery life is 7 hours.
And it's FREE!

Just got it today, so I can't give you a review.

According to your criteria, I once again recommend the Blackberry Curve or the 8820. The only other PDA that I would recommend through AT&T is the Moto Q, but I try to steer clear of Window Mobile devices.

I love my Curve 8310. It only cost me 100 bucks. I put in another 2GB for music, etc. I have full control of the apps that are on there (no flashing necessary). Google has several apps, and their map app works with the Curve's GPS.

I say wait for the 3G iPhone and get a 3G crackberry. If you don't need a smart phone then everything else pretty much is the same. Choose something you think is pretty.
