I usually just use a template from Word, actually. I've had the same one since I got out of college. I guess it has worked aight. Only have used it for 2 jobs, though.

there are a ton of different templates out there. Really you need to find the one that pertains to the situation you are in. For instance, are you applying for a job in the same industry that you have years of experience in? Does your past schooling come into play? How about community service? Or is it an experience only position? I've only made a few resumes for looking for a job in college and just after graduating college. I am in the process of continually updating my resume to reflect current career experience.

At 42 I doubt my example of a resume would help much.

By keeping the same job for years until this "downsizing" thing hit and not sure how is going to play out so just to be ready I better have a resume on and.

I use a Word Template as well. It is labeled professional resume.I have never been turned down from any job with it except one for the city of orange. I am second if a spot opens. The other guy had more hydraulic experience than me.

so, what do you do?

any headhunters work for you?

do you want to stay in the same industry? that would determine how your resume goes- if "yes" then project related experience would work (as is mine, but the environmental consulting industry likes that sort of schitt)

Monster actually has an decent rez builder.

I typically update my resume once a year and/or if i get canned (4 employers in 7 years- only one was a layoff)

also, try to keep it short. the only thing that should be "of length" is if you have a CV (curriculum vitae) of published works. my rez is at about 3 pages w/o references, and there is quite a bit of project-related experience on it.

please let me know if you need help- I've had my rez critiqued enough by several people with lots of experience in this sort of thing.

plus it has a bunch o' options as to which style of resume you like.

Thansk guys for all your help offers.Worked for the past 10 years for the big phone company, most of it as Communication Technician but also have strong backround on sales/customer service. I guess I'm not used to not knowing my job situation in the next few months and thats what make me take a look of what is out there but I hope not to be forced to look for a job.

bajamtnbkr, I know some people in the Telecom industry down in San Diego. Mostly people who are on the staffing side, but they may be able to help you if you are interested.

All resumes are pretty standard. Just download a Microsoft word resume template and fill it in. I recently filled one out for the Managment positions and had to only change minor things on the actual template. The example it had was almost identical to what I do

i forgot about you being in that job title. sorry to hear about the looming surplus. i went through it 3 times before I crossed over to mgmt. make sure you get a copy of your skill codes. you can use that on your resume. you might want someone like kingaucho to help translate it from telco skills to IT skills.

see if kingaucho can get you back in on the contractor side doing lightspeed. I know a couple of my students landed term jobs but for you it might keep you around long enough until they can hire you back. maybe on the mgmt side if your interested.

if you need a reference or any resume help let me know.

Good luck.
