I was interviewed for a jury once and I said if someone gets pulled over they must be guilty of something. That was it for me. I haven't been called back since.

make interruptions like asking questions that question the law or them...they'll be so annoyed they'll dismiss you.
or just eat something that makes you drop ass and they'll dismiss you simple for the greater good

Freeriding is both

Just stare at the floor and repeat "I must find a more suitable host body" and twitch your face a little. Swearing randomly Tourette's style can't hurt either.

Not to be too trite about this, but c'mon - the system needs intellegent, coherent people to serve on juries. Do your part. There is nothing more unsettling than appearing in court as a defendant (or as either party in a civil suit) and realizing that absolutely no one wants to be on the jury, and consequently no one will take the issues seriously. There is a reason parties arrive in court (and it's not always unmitigated greed): it's because they need your help in resolving a dispute. Sometimes the issues are mundane - more often they are complex, subtle and equivocal. (That, after all, is why neither party has conceeded.) They need to rely on you to sort this out. And someday you might find yourself in the same situation.

Hey Buzzkill, leave logic and the greater good out of this, and you misspelled intelligent.

I agree on all points. That said, our jury selection system sucks. Very unorganized, innefficient, and wasteful. And to say the recompensation they pay you for your travel and for missed work is insulting would be a compliment. If they want my intelligent, coherent, well-informed opinion, they had better pay me for it. And there is no shortage of potential jurors, since every registered voter is in the pool.

(Many commerical contracts specify arbitration or mediation now to avoid the courts (and jurors), effectively paying for a third-party's opinion.) I was just disappointed that the original poster, who seems a reasonable fellow, was so eager to avoid service. I don't blame him - I'm just trying to give a different perspective. And since he provided a good frame recommendation at the same time I was calling him out for trying to avoid jury duty, I kinda feel bad. |
