Jury duty sucks and it seems like i get called once a year.
Still, it's our civic duty and should be taken seriously. I would hate to be falsely accused of a crime and have a jury of malcontents. And for those advocating "just not showing up because the summons was lost in the mail" I had a coworker try that and he had a bench warrant issued.

I tell you what, you shold see how much taxes are taken out of my check every two weeks oh and BTW I don't qualify for that 600 tax break. I have no home to write off nor any kids. So I do my service every two weeks by the State and Feds taking almost 1/2 of my money.

You're not the only one that pays taxes, believe me so I hope my point is not lost. I just finished the Grisham non-fiction book about guys wrongly sentenced to death for murders they did not commit. I can only imagine the horror of having a pissed off jury if I'm fighting for my life. It happens a lot more often than I thought.

This is what I see: It is your duty serve on a jury, no matter what. If the intelligent citizens all got out of serving, just because the didn't want to, who do we leave to handle cases? The exact people we gripe about. Not good.
Are the cases about the most obvious things that are horribly overdrawn? Yes. Is it an absolute bore? Yes. (for my case, at least) But it is necessary. I'd want the right-minded and intelligent to persecute the wrongdoers, not the others to be lax about the case and let someone slip by, or persecute someone innocent.

Wow. What upstanding citizens. Why don't people bite the bullet and give something back to their country and our system of justice. I am ashamed to hear so many citizens unwilling to spend a day of their life every couple of years to ensure our justice system continues to work. There are a lot of places you can go and live.
Every time I am called, I go. It is not fun but I understand the importance. |
