great trucks Doug, my wife has an 07 tahoe and wished she had got the suburban instead due to the size and the growing family. the gas mileage is abysmal though but like you said your wife doesnt drive much like mine.

We havent had any items that required warranty work, just a couple of oil changes so far and wesloh is where we got ours very good service btw. they honor the costco member pricing which is INVOICE no questions asked and it's a done deal. just bring your costco membership card.

I wish they would roll out the new hybrid drive system onto the subs as well as the tahoe...for city driving it goes to 22 mpg which is phenomenal compared to the 14 she's getting now.

A buddy picked up a new '08 Suburban a few weeks ago. He has four little ones and so far, he's been nothing but complimentary about the size, power and fuel economy.

Do the 08 subs have that V8 that only runs on four cylinders when hey need to? My Dad has an Avalanche that works like that and loves it.

yah they have the smart cylinder thing but really in city driving that hardly ever happens unless you're on the hwy...dont look at the instant gas mileage when you're accelerating it's depressing.

for the amount of driving she does it would take 20 years to break even for the additional cost of the Hybrid.

Good to know you folks like the Tahoe

I got 35000 miles on my 07 Tahoe. Pros are size, power, comfortable and gets 16.7 mpg so far which is better that one would expect. You can put a mountain bike in the back without removing any wheels. Cons are that it seems like it's at least 95% plastic and all the parts are clicked together like legos. Different trim pieces and interior panels like to pop apart. It's been fixed under warranty twice for minor stuff. Road noise is more than I would like. The thing looked sweet at the dealership and I overlooked the overall cheapness. I wouldn't get another one to be perfectly honest.

Not sure if your interested in some feedback between the the Armada and the Suburban, but i'll give my .02.

I have an 2007 Armada, my Brother owns the suburban XL.

Armada: Seats 8, with stadium seating the back row. the back to rows have middle belts. Plenty of room in the middle row (as much or more then the front seats) and the middle side seats recline.

Suburban: Seats 8 also, but the 3 row does not have a middle belt. Second row does not have reclining seats (although still roomy). More back space 6 inches than armada when all 3 rows are being used.

Overall in my opinion: The Armada may look smaller but really isn't that much smaller (maybe 6 inches total). My Armada came standard with a ton of features that my brother had to pay for. The Suburban rides more like a cloud the Armada feels like a truck sometimes (until I drive Neils truck - Nissan Titan).

Both vehicles are great but I really can't pass up the middle reclining seats while taking road trips. Now when I ride in the Suburban I feel like i'm sitting straight up and can't get comfy.

take her out and have her drive both. They're both great SUV's!

Funny thing is...
It was my test drive of the Armada that actually piqued my interest in the Titan.
I was on the Nissan lot and just happened to look at an Armada when a sales rep asked if I would like to test drive it...sure why not. I was used to driving my Ford SuperCrew, so when I got in this fully loaded beaut, it was plush. All kinds of standard features.
But, I need a truck for work, so I test drove 5 Titans, one a day for five days in a row...yeah..just a little OCD.
I ended up getting an awesome deal on my Titan, but it was the Armada that got me there.
Seriously, if I didn't need a truck for work, I would have picked up an Armada.

i ride bikes

This is probably the wrong place to ask because, if you ride enough I suppose you use your big suvs for bringing your bike around, but why is it that so many people still have these huge cars? I can completely understand the need for such a car if your job requires it or you have some sort of actualy need for the extra size of the vehicle. It just seems that so many people drive their full size SUVs and don't use the extra cargo and enormous size for anything more than driving around town.

I'm guessing that most of the people with the large SUVs have families and say they need all the space for carrying people, groceries, road trips, etc. Even with that being said, couldn't most people get a smaller car that will suffice?

If you've ever gone to europe all you see is small cars. Compact cars and midsize family cars are the majority of the cars there and very very few SUVs. I'm sure euros have families and similar needs that americans have so why? Obviously they have been experiencing the crazier gas prices for much longer than we have and most people have gone to small cars to get better mpg but we are kind of headed in the same direction and fast.

Maybe the gas prices haven't gone high enough for us to really change what we drive. This is coming from a car enthusiast of all shapes and sizes. I'm not hating on SUV drivers, half the people I know and love drive em, just curious to know why? Maybe I'm missing something.
