Talking The T-Shirt dilemma...when to throw them away???

I don't know about you, but I have a drawer full of MTB t-shirts... in fact, there are two drawers and 10 more of the really good ones hanging in the closet. I have one (a favorite) that is so old and holy... that's it's become truely holy. Ranger Nancy made the mistake the other day of slipping several of the older ones into the charity pile in the garage... I tracked them down and put them back in my drawer. My total count is up around 33. I even found 2 more in the rag pile. They seem to multiple if left to themselves... I just can't seem to throw them away as each one has a memory connected with it ... I thinking maybe a public storage unit is in my future... to store T-shirts and MTB tires... maybe that's what happens to old t-shirts ... they turn into old MTB tires. I really don't remember buying all those tires and I can't throw them away... I might need one... and besides, they'll probably turn back into T-shirts someday anyway.

Never, t-shirts are like fine wines...they only get better with age. Oh, and wives are strictly not allowed to throw out husband's t-shirts.

I have a bunch of t-shirts that I can't seem to part with either. I have 2 full drawer full of t-shirts and a basket that has t-shirts that have never been worn like when the LA Kings went to the Stanley Cups, Laker Champion T-shirts....,etc. What to do with them, I have no idea.

If they're Boston Red Sox t-shirts,place them under your bike when you oil the chain, bleed your brakes, etc. (Yes,it's that time of the year again!) -Lloyd

Gregg, Gene & others -
Do just like I did with all the bmx trophies I had acquired over years of racing: kept a couple real sentimental ones and took pictures of the rest - then donated them to a good cause. I ended up giving my trophies to a local youth club for giveaways at events, etc. All they had to do was replace the bmx dude on top for a generic one and they got a second life. The real big trophies I had to scrap cuz no 7 year old needs a 4-foot, 25 pound trophy for winning a water baloon toss.

In short - photograph them, then goodwill them.

I just went through all my old ones too. That's what happens when your home sick and bored. I tried all of the old ones on and found out either they shrunk or I grew. Then I took the really special ones and stashed them and put the rest in the garage. Somehow I am sure I will get more.

Oh yea. You better hang on to the LA Kings Stanley Cup shirt. That could be worth something one day.

The Kings one you can use in the garage Gene. I'll give you a Ducks shirt you can actually wear.

Me too. I have a few Stanley Cup t-shirts from last year.

I wouldn't put the Kings t-shirt in the garage though. I would frame it. It could be a long time before there is another one.....

I've got three stacks at about 3 feet high. Some I've worn once or twice and are really good shirts, but some how found their way to the bottom of a stack, so they get little to no use. I went thru them about 3 months ago and got rid of a stack. I do use them for cleaning the bike though.

Usually t-shirts you get a races are uncomfy and crappy material, but they have cool logos and its proof that you completed a ride or race. Bragging rights.

I always thought it would be cool to hang the shirts or atleast cut them and make a collage in the garage with them.

I hang my racing numbers. My t-shirts are still at the bottom of the drawers....

having to deal with hyperhidrosis all my live I go through shirts like crazy because of sweat stains. So most shirts don't last but 3-4 months before they're delegated to become rags. There's a couple I keep just to run in or change my oil.

Default tee shirt solution

Here is an idea, and you can keep the tee shirts, just in a different form.

Turn them into a quilt!! My sister used both her son's old tee shirts, from when they were growing up and turned them into keepsakes by making "patch quilts" out of them. She also included scanned photos onto their quilts making them even more personal. Photos one and two.

Her boss, who had the same dilema with his old military tee's, paid her to make a quilt for him.....

Just a thought!!

I had tons of shirts. Most of them had not been used. Big portion of them are Video game related from past E3 conventions and from sales reps. Then I had a lot of shirts from when I was racing Rc cars. I've donated a lot of them already to charity's or to give as raffle prizes at events. Its weird how you can accumulate so many shirts.

There are two criteria for getting rid of old t-shirts:

1) When it's too embarrasing to own, like a George Michael concert shirt or something.

2) When the shirt can get up and walk away under it's own power.

That's it. Otherwise the strict man code rules are that all cool old shirts are to be kept indefinitely.
