The beginner class looks pro??? WTF! j/k....You're the one who's going to be showing up on the bike that all of the guys want!
You'll be the most pro looking guy out there in the beginner class with the bike you have planned!I may be in the same boat as you on getting a bike completed. I'm not sure when I'll have my new frame, but it won't be ready until at least next week some time. Although, how much time do you really need? Build it and race it! BTW, you were asking about a forum for 4X. This is the best one I'm familiar with: http://forums.mtbr.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58 Granted, the forum is more for urban, DJ, and park riders, but the bikes are very similar, and there is a bit of 4X discussion in particular. EDIT: I was just reading a thread with a post from mudmanner...is that you?

I plan on racing next week for beginner 4X but currently the odds are looks slim. The beginner class seems pretty damn fast! I know jumping on a brand new bike the day before a race isn't going to help me do well. Yeah I am Mudmanner. The Forum isn't as active as I'd like it to be..

Yeah, some of the beginner guys are fast, but I think some of them moved up to Sport. I remember at the last race at least one guy saying that he moved up from Beginner. As obvious as it sounds getting out there and racing will make you fast. Practice is good, of course, but it doesn't simulate racing, where you may often get stuck in lines you don't like or didn't practice. And from there, you'll learn the lines to practice.
Kind of funny, since I haven't ridden my DH bike for a while, jumping onto it is quite a task - 4X bikes are really easy to ride and throw around, especially the Black Market bikes.

I just have high expectations of myself to do well. I dont see myself doing well in 4X, but it's the most fun I've had on a bike in a while. DH racing puts me in too much of a competitive state since I've always wanted to do that. Deciding to give 4X a shot just came out of the blue after hitting the track on my DH bike.
Let's hope I get the bike up and running by next week. I'll be at Fontana tomorrow getting in some 4X practice on the XC bike.

Begginners look like pro's....wow, thanks man although I KNOW I don't look like the Sports let alone the pros...have you seen Ricky and Lee race!!!!
The beginner class is pretty good with a wide variance to the level of riding from complete newb like myself to a guy on short travel FS bike that cleared nearly every jump. In the first race last week he launched the first set of doubles like he was gonna take low orbit. The couple of things I learned...besides run a short stem on the bike...is that you need good strong legs that are able to sprint again and again, and that one tiny mistake will kill you. In the first race I felt like I had Gill but I tried to take a different line and bam he was gone. BMX skills will help a lot in the lower section at Fontana as well. But the biggest thing I learned is to just go out and ride it!!!! Over and over and over and over again!!!! I won't be out next week to race but I'll be out in March, I look forward to seeing you.

Ricky and Lee dont count as pro, they are "Ultra Pro" and the actual pro class can be identified as "Chuck Norris". I believe the guy you are thinking of that launched everything was on a Chumba, He is their team rider. If anything I think he should have been in a higher class. The closest I get to BMX skills is being able to bunny hop up a curb.

For some reason Mudman I think I'm the opposite. I love the feeling of railing around that berm and clearing that double on the middle section is a rush!
I also love that moment just before the gate is released. It's the same in XC and I'm sure for DH as well. That moment of expectation and tense pressure. I love it. ![]() Yeah Bob I won't be able to get out to race until March. I hope to be able to get out and practice a bit before then though! Hpefully we'll have a few more Tuesday or Wednesday fun days at Fontucky!

I think the best part of 4X is the clock isn't chasing you-the other riders are-or your chasing them. Regardless, It's like a constant push to the finish line. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now I'm so rev'd up for some sprints I'm going to tie steaks to my legs and let the neighbor's Dobbie chase me down the street. Word. Jman, and everybody else, are you going to hit the NMBS this year? Beginners don't require USAC lic.

Unfourtanatly this summer I'm swamped at work and I won't be doing anything on weekends but working! The price of being a Park Ranger I guess. We're just not as busy on week days.

The NMBS races are a bit closer to home and I don't have to drive 12 hours every other weekend to make good in the series. I think the web site is Bluewolf.com. I'll have to check on that. ![]()
