Charlie bit me

Notice the cops attitude at the beginning of the video, it's somewhat respectful, but the minute the kid looks intimidated the guy strikes and doesn't back down. We will let a jury decide this one, and even though a lot of cops get away with stuff when juries are involved because of lawyers who know how to bend the law, this kid will be set in skateboards for life. No way does this guy have the right to treat anybody like that. If it's a problem he can shut his fatarse up and just arrest/cite the kid. He chose to be a professional, yet he sure doesn't act like one. I know if this kid had stood his ground and not shown any fear this bully would of backed off. The cops are way down on my list of people to call when I need help. And I have friends that are cops, even one that is a local chief of police that I ride with most every weekend.

Without a doubt, the police officer was out of order and did not perform up to his professional obligation to the taxpayers he's paid to serve. I, for one, think he needed to get suspended for abusing his badge.
Saying that, kids now-a-days have no respect for their parents, relatives or adults. What makes you think they have any towards the authorities, judges, fire men or their teachers? It all starts from the home. If I learned my 15 year old son was calling a peace officer "dude" and "man", I personally would put my foot up his arss. These are (for most part) good people who put their lives in danger to protect "us". Yes, they get paid but it's chump change when you compare it to the amount of stress and daily risk they encounter. In the process, some get hardened and some behave like this bitter & obviously fed-up police officer, they can only take so much and they snap. What's so hard about saying "sir" or look at someone in the eye when you address them now-a-days? Our basic manners and respect towards adults should not be altered because the current young generation doesn't feel like they need to. That's b.s., IMO. I guess it would be dull or boring to view a video of the 98% of police officers behaving with dignity and class while serving our respective communities and risking their lives. That would not peek any interest and who'd want to see that, right? There are bad seeds in every industry. Police officers are no exception to that rule. The only difference is, the police have guns.

I still don't think we should be completely judging this guy without seeing what completely happened. If there was video on the kid mouthing off to the guy before the video started, I kinda think the tone here would be slightly different. It's hard not to judge this cop just from watching this video. However, that's not the complete story. Could he have handled it more professionally? DEFINITELY. But i'd take a guess and say some of us would not say he was TOO out of line if they saw a video of this kid harassing him or something.

put it in a different context: you get caught going down a historical trail and the "dude" in uniform takes your bike and gives you a 20 minutes rant. What do you do?

Why are kids more disobedient these days? Well, my guess is that they've never been put in their place. Anyone here ever been on the wrong side of a belt or a "switch"? If you as a parent do that these days, the kids know you can be busted, and it's not uncommon for parents to get in lots of trouble. Kids now know that - they know they're like teflon. You can thank the do-gooders for that (disclaimer: there is a point of excessive abuse, though, which should not be allowed, but the real debate is what is excessive). I'm with pain freak. I've had police officers lie and cheat in an effort of making something "stick." And although I've had many friends who are in uniform, I'll respect officers as individuals, but I do not respect them merely because they have a badge. And I agree with ODB, those kids are lazy. Had they got into bikes instead of boards, it would have been a lot easier to run. While growing up, there were lots of cops who would try to bust us for playing on jumps or just want to question us for riding in parks and stuff for no apparent reason. It became fun outrunning them. Even when they tried chasing us on motorcycles, we had various methods we could always use to ditch them. Ah...the good ol' days. I'm all over the map with this post...

People on forum generalize too much!!! It's not about "kids these days" (even though my dad used to say that about us) and not about the law enforcement profession. you guys get it all wrong. It's this fat stupid rent-a-cop that abuses this kid on this video. Nothing more than that.

That dude would get a arse full of my foot if he did that to my kids.
Uhoh, here it goes, FLASHBACK to 1986 ... Driving down Devonshire at 00:30 (12:30 am) when a car full of drunk chicks cuts us off then flips up off. I hit ALL my auxiliary lights (a few mil. candle power, about 10 lights in all) when we notice two officers on motorbikes heading the other way. Off goes the lights, on comes the lights and we are asked to get out of the truck. Then one starts yelling at us and says, "If this was even 10yrs ago I would put yer head through that wall!!!!" We had a good laugh after that, told him what was up, they toldd us to be a little more careful when we turn the lights on and then watched as they pulled the other car over and arrested 'em all. |

First of all they were just skate boarding . My kids got harassed by a cop at their school ground that was open to the public on weekends [no locked gates] for skating. The principal had seen them smiled waved etc , no problem right? So this a hole [police man] calls me up tells me that they had been caught skating . I said [they were skating , were they damaging property ] no he said [were they using drugs carying wepons ] no he said [let me get this right your calling me about my kids skate boarding instead of chasing down a drug dealer , rapist . gang banger ] this sherif gets all pissed said I had to come get my kids & their sate boards right now .My wife gets all pissed at me because I questioned his authority . I told her our country was started by questioning authority .We dont live in a communist country . We have rights & our children have rights .That cop is supposed to protect the peace , He is a civil servant period .I hope he loses his job .

. FYI Its a proven stat most of the Johnny Law's marriages end up in divorce. The majority of Johnny Law takes the work home with them. I read that the cops are used to putting people in their place or not hearing no for an answer. When they come home the wife and kids will challenge his authority, test his discipline, or just express their own views and beliefs and the police officer forgets or can't comprehend that he not at work anymore. When I was younger we used to always tease the security at South Coast Plaza and run away from them on our bikes until one day I was messing with this rent a cop and my chain was loose on my bike and my chain came off the sprocket ![]()
