I need to find a good, non-dealership, mechanic in the San Gabriel Valley. Anyone have a good recommendation?
Thanks!

Although they're not a VW specialist, I use, trust and like Gabriel's Automotive on Hill, just south of the 210 fwy. and north of Walnut, east side of the street. Mike's the owner and hasn't done me wrong yet. I'm sure there are cheaper places in town but I know I'm not getting ripped off when I take my 4Runner to him. I've also referred him other people and they were satisfied. I've been using them for the past 4-5 years.
If not, I do think there are a couple of VW specialists in town. One (I think) is across the street from the Honda Dealership on Walnut, between Allen and Altadena Drive. Edit: I believe it's called Steve's Independent VW & Audi... http://www.stevesindependentvwaudi.com/

Thanks all. I typed in Volkswagen into Microsoft Live Local (my fav mapping application) and called around. I called a place called Strictly VW. Talked to the guy for like 15 minutes. He said he was in his 60s and had been working on VWs for over 20 years. The shop only does engines and tranys. They specialize in dune buggies. While they would not work on my car he recommended a guy in Azusa who he said is "an honest mechanic from the old school." I called and turns out their price is $150 less that the dealership. Got an appointment for tomorrow.
Paul's Auto Repair in Azusa. (626) 969-7711 if anyone needs VW mechanic with a good rep.
