not sure if you are looking for sales or maintenance/repair.

i have used commonwealth in SA (close to REI) and they were okay from a mechanic standpoint but i have had issues on 2 occassions with their mgt of the repairs/fixes/billing. for example i left a car there for an entire day and they never touched it as the repair order "got lost" and they once tried to hit me up for a change that was covered under warranty. it's been a few years since i sold my jetta so perhaps things have improved

there is also a small independednt place (forgot name) i think in orange taht specialized in Vw's. seen alot of old bugs/buses etc there. Dont recall exact location but perhaps on one of the cross streets of fof la vata around st 'joes / main place. sorry just cannot recall specifics

as for indies- VW specialties in HB ron wood is the king of vw's and audi. his pricig is extremely fair and so he books things 2 weeks out.

commonwealth - it's hit or miss depending on who your service advisors are. they changed ownership so a lot of the good techs/service advisors jumped ship and left.

Agreed. I used to always deal with Larry in service exclusively. He was awesome but I think he left.

I had one experience there with a service manager who 1) charged me for a service I didn't ask for and 2) lied to me by saying he would put a free oil change (to make up for #1) on my account and then never did. When I came back for my free oil change he actually told me to my face that he never said he'd do that. I almost quit Commonwealth forever if Larry hadn't stepped in and honored it anyways.

From a sales standpoint I didn't get courteous service from them so I bought from McKenna in HB.

If you go into McKenna and need service ask for Rick Hernandez. He is my uncle and the big dog for Volkswagon mechanics.

I know that Neccros is looking to buy a used 2005 model GTi (sorry, I don't know the specifics beyond that), so I believe he's looking for someone or a dealer who can help him track one down. I don't think he's looking for a service shop yet. However, I'm sure he'll need that later.

I got the service shop in mind... Since im in HB, Ron @ VW Specialties is probably the guy I am taking it to....

What I need help with is locating potential lease returns that could or will be certified and sold.....

I can look all day long on the internet, but that will not show me what was traded in that day and will be certified, etc....

So I guess I need someone on the inside...

Sales guys I have dealt with so far dont seem to care I have a check in my hand ready to buy the second they get a car I want.....

Also McKenna is around the corner from me in HB and the guys I have dealt with back when I was scoping out cars, have been total d*cks so far so I pretty much refuse to give them my business unless they pull a sweet deal out of their ass, which I doubt, considering they were selling an R32 once for more money that it was NEW with 57K on the clock!!!

All the times I go there, I always find cars with wheels that have chunks taken out of them and/or the tire has rips in it.... then I go back and those same wheels are on some other car....

hahaha i owned an R32

then i find out through the grapevine someone bought it after i traded it in and wrecked it

VW specialties is the place to be. Have you looked at carmax to do the vehicle search. Often times if it's low mileage you can buy extended warranties which as everyone knows is a good thing to have when you are buying used German cars.

There's also a guy named Dave Henry in Fullerton that can work magic on VW's. Plus, he has good prices. He's behind the U-Haul on Commonwealth and Euclid.

I don't know if I'd buy one of his cars though b/c they're all salvage titles. That being said, my parents did buy one from him and hardly had any problems.

they're not all that bad...the 05 i think were the last year of the MkIV chassis so most of the bugs were worked out. the window regulator problem has extended warranties on them so at least that's covered. the 1.8t motor (if that's what neccross is getting) is a stout motor that can handle a lot of abuse as evidenced by the postings on VWVortex
