Pretty much just a fudging of numbers I would say.
720i at best, which is close to an equivilant of 480p.
720p is a decent picture, better than 720i, but those upscaling dvd players don't have enough technology to place extra information onto a disc to get to a higher resolution.

Another reason to get Blu-Ray: the recent news that Warner Bros will ONLY be supporting Blu-ray! This gives Blu-ray a huge advantage since the only networks supporting HD DVD will be Paramount and Universal. That means less movies avaliable in HD DVD in the future...

Warner exclusively backs Blu-Ray

What was wrong with just plain DVD? My grandma asked me what kind of Bourne Ultimatum DVD I wanted... why does there have to be 3 choices?!

After you watch something in Blue Ray on a 1080p screen, there is really only one choice

yes allison major difference. your tv has to be able to display things in 1080p to take FULL advantage of high def movies

Aren't Paramount and Universal as big as Warner Bros?
to me that seems like only 1/3 of the major studios are going to Blu-Ray

you're forgetting that paramount has an out clause that stipulates that if Warner goes they can go as well. So that will leave just Universal...and you know how long that's going to last.

Blu-ray VS. DVD contest for a while and he says Blu-ray is where it's all going.

Right now the PS3 has all that capabilities wifi/ethernet so you dont have to worry bout buying a player that will become obsolete.

I'll be honest i dont play any of the games on the PS3 we mainly bought it for the BR player as it is the cheapest and best bang for the buck.
Something that should be noted on the PS3 is that they over heat and so need plenty of ventilation. I ended buying a aux fan for mine which works but is also very noisy and distracting when watcing movies.
My first PS3 burnt out three days before the warranty ran out and the new one still runs very hot so it wasn't just that one unit.
