if you really have a trojan, run netstat /a and see what ports your machine is listening on. you should be able to see it there.

What's wrong with a little porno now and then?

What you want to run is a spyware scan, in addition to the virus scan. I doubt you actually have a trojan installed, it's most likely just malware.

RE: Netstat

since it's pretty obvious you are in the stone age as far as computer proficiency, unless you can have someone give you a detailed walk-through or talk you through it on the phone, i'd forget about netstat.

I used Dr.Web last week and it did a great job of removing viruses and trojans. It brought a non responding machine back to life. You can run it either in regular mode or safe mode. I'd recommend running DrWeb in safe mode when the other processes aren't running. It'll give you a better scan.

They're probably posting from shared IP addresses in their mansion.

This one is new, and NASTY from what I hear. AV software won't catch it. If you get strange pop-ups (even if you have AV installed), DO NOT CLICK anywhere in the box (even the red X). Right click and close it.

You mind sharing where you got it? My first guess is Myspace...

What makes me laugh is a few years ago good ole Steve RAVED how his PowerPC chips were so damn superior to Intels offerings and how they outperform, yada yada yada....

Now he is Intels bitch!!! He should think before he rags on stuff in the future or it may come back and bite him!!

What I'm doing is creating a separate partition for /home. I will mount that at sda4. That way I can wipe out the root directory whenever I want.

You may want a mount point for /usr also. You can put the programs you downloaded there. There won't be a need to reinstall them because whatever static libraries are linked in the bin and you can swap the shared libraries with your new instal.

Don't forget to modify the amplitude before you wipe it.

if you installed AVG, run the update and did a full scan nothing Norton and McAfee won't be any better. did you run a spyware cleaner like ccleaner?
