What's the big deal? You don't have to get cracked out cross-eyed to go to a rave. There isn't a rule you've gotta get stupid just to get in the door. Go check it out for the sake of the experience so you quit wondering what it's about. Sure, maybe you'll find you don't like the scene. But maybe you will. It's important to expand your horizons and experience new things. It's almost the definition of growing up.

...speaking of, learning not to call things "gayyy" that you don't like is also part of growing up.

I guess what I'm wondering is even if you go to a rave sober and don't use whatever, aren't you still surrounded by a majority of chemically enhanced individuals who may not be in complete and logical control of themselves or their actions? I would definitely feel out of place, unsafe and not enjoy myself.

It's good to hear a lot of you grasshoppers shunning drugs. Outside of over the counter and doctor prescribed drugs, I've only had alcohol, no other drug. When I was in high school, a lot of the guys I surfed with did HEAPS of drugs, but, by the grace of God, I never did any of them, NOT EVEN POT! How many people can honestly say that?!?!? Now that we're all in our 30s, I don't hear any of them saying that taking drugs was a benefit to them, they all wish they hadn't wasted so much of their lives.

That said, I'm in to Electronica, yet I've never been to a rave...maybe someday, just not for the X.

I used to rave back in the good ol days (Masterdome/Fox Theatre). Probably hung out with Nam in an e-puddle without even knowing it. It was one of the funnest moments in my life but definitely did some permanent damage to the lobe.

I would recommend it at least once for the experience and the music, but stay away from candE that comes along with it.

There are exactly two of us bro.

My few friends who are still alive from that era are paying dearly for all the partying they did back in the day.

I have very good friends who lost their 18yr old daughter to X. She did not OD, she dropped a "normal amount" on prom night, went into a coma and died. I had known this girl since she was born. TO ALL YOUNG GRASSHOPPERS: If YOU choose to "experiment", you are taking a chance with your WHOLE FREAKING LIFE. Your family, your career, your health, your sanity. Please. Think. Ask yourself how much fun it's going to be to need constant medical care when you are just in your 40's.

Me too (or I was anyway). We used to go to allot of undergrounds, warehouse parties, raves etc. The "thing" to do back then was NO2. Whippets, or balloons. Never anything with lasting stoney effects. still not good for us. No worse than inhaling helium though. For us it was more about the groove of the music, and the light shows. You didn't need to "roll like that" to be outa yer freaking head!!

Later, I decided I liked having HUGE sound systems at home and in my car. I would show up to a friends house party with like 500-600 watts of mains and subs. Most of the time it sounded great two streets away.....

Thumbs up Guinness for Strength!

I'm pretty thankful that I grew up as a punk rocker. I never had even the slightest desire to go to a rave. I'd go to punk shows and just get drunk in the parking lot.

I did so much underage drinking that when I finally turned 21, I was already pretty much done with alcohol altogether. Brandon, just stick to booze and you'll turn out just fine.

I guess I'd be one of those.... But the thing is I listen to "electronic" music and not just "rave" music either... Sure I like trance, house, breakbeat, etc but I also listen to stuff like Depeche Mode, New Order and hell even stuff like Tangerine Dream, and Jean-Michel Jarre... Been into it for years....

So if a certain DJ I like is DJ'ing a rave, I would go to see them play, PERIOD..... You dont need to take crap to get into the music because if you do, then your there for all the wrong reasons.....

And now because of the flood of e-tards and dumba$$ people that see the stupid media coverage how raves are big drugfests, well that attracts them and they ruin the true meaning of what the scene is about....

So because of this, I go to clubs like Tentation in Newport or Giant/Spundae in LA when DJs I like play.... being a "upperscale" nightclub, it helps weed out the e-tards, etc... and these clubs tend to attract an audience more into the music than dressing like a retard and acting like one...

If you want to hear a good DJ, go look for Armin Van Buurens "A State of Trance" and listen and put down the stupid candy crap and the oversized raver clothes!!

Just my $.002 w./ a rebate

The best raves I ever went to were the ones that you could not find without clues. They were not advertised or talked about. You had to know someone. At 15 I would say skip them altogether because of the drugs and influence especially if you are easily influenced.

the ladies you meet that think they are cool popping the extra pills will look tattered in a few years and you won't want to anything to do with them then so go for the shy hot (with the right potential) band member or no party type girl while in school. That way if she ends up being your sweetheart after school your kids won't come out with some extra fingers here and some oddly spaced eyes.

Trust me... a few years down the road and wow... some shy ones, non cool at the time, turn out to be knockouts.

Somethin like that. You'd go to DMZ records in Hollywood. Give the guy outside $10. He gives you a map and a piece of candy and says "what ever you do, don't eat the candy". You drive around downtown until you find a certain deserted gas station pull in, flash your lights, and some vagrant looking person walks up and asks "do you have any candy?" If you do, you get another map, which could send you around the corner, across town, or 1/2 way to Mexico...There could be anywhere from 2-5 map points, weird clues, etc. You never knew where you were going, but you knew it when you got there.

Lil Bub-

If you are ever tempted or feel pressured into partying, call me first.

There are sooo many other things we can do together, legally, that are a much better 'high'- like shredding some trails on the two-strokes or pedal bikes.

But if you screw up and start getting in trouble, you can pretty much forget about riding cuz I'll break both your freakin' legs, right off at the knees you nuggit!

*

I love you, Brandon, very much- with all my heart.

Remember that before you do ANYTHING.

Signed- Your God Father.
