Default Know a good Toyota mechanic?

Anybody know a good Toyota mechanic near the Irvine area?

Got a Camry that's throwing codes P0305 (misfire - cylinder #5) and P0171 (Lean - Bank 1).

There's an intermittent misfire that occurs more often than not. I'm led to believe the #5 injector is (going) bad, but getting to it looks like I would need to remove the upper intake manifold - something I'd rather not get into.

I've already replaced the plugs. Wires and coils seem to be firing ok.

Any help would be appreciated.

Midway City might be a little far - especially since I don't even know where that is!

For reasonable prices, check out Carlos Auto Repair. It's a small hole in the wall shop located off Ave Pico in San Clemente. My parents and I have had great luck with them.

Weyland, my old neighbor owns Tokyo Automotive off of Kraemer and Orangethorpe in Anaheim, a stone's throw from Chumba.

Dubjay, what year is your Camry? Injectors rarely fail on those V6's. I'd put money on the coil. What I would do is switch coils from cylinder 5 with another one and see if the code changes to the different cylinder. That is depending on if it is an older one with only 3 coils or newer one with individual coils on each cylinder.

As for the P0171, did this code start coming up before the misfire code? Whenever we get P0171 by itself we replace the air flow meter on the intake, those things drop like flies.

I think Karl at The Path has a brother who owns a shop that works on Tayota's. If he is as good of a mechanic as Karl I would take it there!

Thanks Rob. It's an older 96 with 3 coils. Let me try doing a swap on the coils tomorrow and see if the code moves to a different cylinder. The P0171 came up at the same time as the P0305.

I would just disregard the 171 code till you get the misfire fixed then. Since it is the older style with 3 coils I would probably change the plug wires if swapping coil positions doesn't change the code. Wires are MUCH cheaper than replacing an injector in the rear.

Even if it is does end up being an injector taking the intake manifold off isn't that big of a deal. I've done tons of them when replacing valve cover gaskets on those motors.
