Default Computer advice needed

I need to get a new computer. Mine is 5 years old.
The main things that I do are :
*Surf the web.

*Edit photos in photo shop. Some of my panorama photos are about 150mb in size.

*Edit Videos from my DV recorder.

*I tunes/ Ipod.

*I would like 1TB of storage.

I am willing to spend $2000ish on the tower. Is this enough to get a fast/multitasking coumuter that won't be out of date in a few months? Any recomendations would be helpful.
Thanks!

HUGH

Mac Pro, but that might kick you over the 2000 mark.... you could build a quad core PC box for decently cheap Get a 10k HD as your system drive then 2 5oo gigs for storage.... or buy a NAS box

iMac 24" will suffice
or
MacPro and just add HDD later for more storage and you can always add RAM later if you need more memory or better yet configure it to suit your needs.

i configured one something like this.

You could easily get that kind of computer for that price. If you want me to price parts out specifically throw me a pm and I'll figure out what you could build.
Or you could go mac which will be way more expensive (as far as meeting the same specs as the computer), but little bit less hassel to get it going.

Holy cow macs are expensive. You could easily get a pc with way better specs, but thats where the pc falls is with windows being a resource hog sometimes.

computing life without virus, spyware and BSOD is priceless. And will last more than 5 years and still boots like the very first time you bought it and never have to re-install the OS.

Meh, not to derail the thread--but you'd be surprised. Factor in all the details: 24" display, bluetooth, wireless, not to mention the way it makes any desk look nicer. The "premium" doesn't exist, or is not as large as you'd think. Besides, whatever you build off the street won't have a warranty, and Apple's warranty service is pretty darn good.

edit: this coming from a long time PC builder/user (linux mainly). Finally tried out the Macs, and I'll never look back.

I did forget to factor the moniter, but still. To edit pictures on photoshop you dont need bluetooth or wireless.
I still bet you could get something around 4gigs memory, core 2 duo conroe and 1tb storage for about the same price.

True, but bluetooth and wireless are conveniences you quickly come to enjoy.

Nice one! This one completely nullifies your other arguments because it proves you've never even tried a mac. Mac's can right click just fine - just buy a two button mouse. Like Mark, I too was once a PC builder, used to run windows, and ran Fedora as my desktop for a year. Once I tried Mac I will NEVER go back.

In January the Quad cores will be even cheaper. In the meantime I added 1Tb to my PC for $198. (2 $99 500GB drives from Fry's)

Mother board and CPU ~$250.
Reuse old case, mouse, keyboard - free.

Add some software. Buy Win XP if you need.

Build it all for well under $1000. It's never obsolete, it's just that your requirements grow.
