Default Unbolted my 5 year old son's training wheels today...

And he managed to stay upright long enough to call it riding without training wheels. Still learning to balance when turning, but it is only his first day.

To motivate him, I told him I'd buy him a new bike if he learned to ride without them. He's VERY motivated now...

Oh yeah, when I mentioned I was going for a trailride tomorrow morning, he said "Hey Dad, I can go with you now that I don't ride with training wheels..."

Default Just keep it fun!

I remember when I took the T wheels off of both of my kids bikes a few years ago. Time really flies. Now they're 9 & 10 & they're asking for 24" mountain bikes. It waters they eye my friend.

That is very cool. My 4 year old is almost there. He's a little cautious though like his mom. My 8 year old had his of at 3, no joke, hes a bit of a dare devil.

Once those training wheels come off, time starts to fly...next thing you know they are getting air.

One thing that worked well for my 4.75 year old was to remove the pedals, get him used to coasting and balance and within a week, pedals back on and he is motoring! He says he wants to practice everyday and go riding with Dad in the "mountains"

Enjoy, it is a great moment!

Oh yeah...ex-wife....serious trouble with that incident.
He's fine now though, he did it when he was 4 1/2. He will be 11 in April, thanks.

Last year when my kid was 5 yrs old and had been riding w/o training wheels for about a year, I took him out on a really tame and hard-packed dirt trail.

There was this little dirt bump that he kept going back and forth on, just rolling over it basically.......then suddendly he had enough speed I saw his front tire leave the ground about two inches and then he hit the landing really nicely.......then the kid rolls up to me excitedly and with the biggest grin I've ever seen and says......"wow.....did you see that.........when I jumped I kind of flew up a little bit...ha ha that was cool....."

I told his Mom and she told me not to take him out again until he was 18.
