Default Christmas Program for Local Marine Families

I normally don’t do non-mtb or non-trail related posts, but George has graciously allowed me to put this up for this special Holiday Season program.

The Holiday Season is now upon us and we’re all busy getting ready for time with our families and friends, and planning great rides together; but for the families of the 1st Battalion/11th Marine Regiment from Camp Pendleton, the holiday season comes with the news that their loved-ones currently deployed in Iraq have had their tours extended.

The 1/11 is the adopted Marine group of the City of San Juan Capistrano, and this year they will be honored at a private luncheon for their families on December 1st.

Homefront America, Inc. (an all volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization) has taken on the task to provide all the children of the 1/11 with filled Christmas Stockings that will be distributed to the kids at the San Juan Capistrano Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 1st.

With the short time-frame, they could use some extra help to gather up these “Stuffed Stockings.” There are more than 400 children in the 1/11 Regiment.

All that’s required is to purchase or make a stuffed stocking (no more than $25.00). (just hang off on that new back tire until December!). The families’ children range from infant to teens, so if you purchase or make a stuffed stocking; just put a note on the stocking of the general age and gender so it can be matched up with a kid of the appropriate age and gender. Also make sure you include a note with your name and address so your tax-deductible receipt can be mailed to you.

Stockings can be dropped off at the Metro Java Café in San Juan Capistrano at 32211 Camino Capistrano. The Metro Java has graciously offered a free lunch (one per household) for people who donate a stocking. You can also contact me if you want to get them to me at one of my rides in the next two weeks. The last day to drop off a stocking will be the 29th of November.

Attached is the link to the flyer with all the details, and if you have any questions, you can always ask them here, e-mail info@homefrontamerica.org or e-mail me at adam.otb@cox.net

Have a safe and happy holiday season this year

Wow......

I got back to my truck after my three-park ride this morning, and was surprised by a bag in the back of my truck with 40 Christmas Stockings.

I just want to give a huge "Thank You" to whoever dropped them off.

You did not leave your name or information however, and I know that my wife really wants to acknowledge your gracious donation and make sure you get your tax-deductible receipt...and her personal thanks.

Your generous gift will go a long way to make for a happy Christmas for local military children whose parent(s) will not be here to share the holidays with them

Many Many Thanks for your generosity. It made for a nice ending to a perfect ride this morning.

Please e-mail your information to info@homefrontamerica.org so they can thank you personally.
