Default Anyone drive a 1999-ish Tacoma?

Looking at replacing my car that was damaged/totaled in the fire. A 99 Taco 4x4 has caught my eye. Was wondering what kind of gas milage you get from it.

Thanks in advance!

1999 V6 but just 2 wheel drive. I get about 16 around town and 19-20 on the freeway.

And most importantly -- how do you choose to carry your bike? Toss it in the bed, hitch mount carrier, other?

Yeah of course! It's a V6...and it looks like it is begging for an LC Engineering/TRD supercharger

Kind of high milage (153k) but it is very clean, has been in one family since new, new clutch 20k miles ago...comes w/ a Leer shell, that I'd probably end up selling... gotta wait till wifey gets home from work to see what she thinks.

Depends how many bikes you want to carry. One bike. I just throw it in the back.

I just take the wheels off and lay it in the back. I'm going to make a hitch mount rack when I get some time.

I also have three headblocks mounted to my toolbox and use a forksup for through axles.

Careful just throwing it in the back , your seat may rub and get worn out, also grips will get excess wear. I had a couple mounts I just mounted to a piece of 2x6.

I got about the same mileage 16 to 20. 153K, well it's not quite broken in yet, so you'll have to drive it some. Naw, j/k, I had 3 Toyota trucks that all went over 300K with no major problems. The old 4 bangers were better then the ones they are making today.

Yea, I keep a blanket in the back and lay my bike on that. Also the bed is rhino lined so it has a little bit of cushion for impacts. Haven't had any wear and tear issues yet.

My truck just ticked over to 100,000 miles.

I made my own out of 2x4 and some long screws. It can probably carry 5 bikes but the most I had was 4(3 forward and 1 facing the rear). I will add a picture tomorrow.

What kind of fork do you have standard QR or 20mm thru axle?

I don't currently have a fork.

Woops i forgot. Sorry about that. Let me rephrase. What kind of fork were you planning on getting?

My mpg is on par with others 15-16 city and about 19 fwy. V6 4 door.

If you are going to get a 20mm thru axle non maxtal I would get the hitch mount Thule T2, if you are going to get a QR then there are more options. Mines was ghetto but worked out pretty good so far, plus I still get the use of almost all of the truck bed. I used the existing threaded holes so I didnt have to tap threads.

2x6 with fork mounts. wood was free and f-mounts cost $20 each and they're lockable. Thruaxle forks get the moto treatment with tie-downs.

DaKine also sells a tailgate cover(mat) that allows you to hang the fork over the tailgate(like DSteppers pic) w/o scratching the paint

I can tell you this much, I test drive cars for a living and tacoma's are very good trucks. Plus I used to live in Tacoma , Wa. No on the real down low the 4cyl is reliable but gutless but cheaper than the 3.4 v6. The only drawback to the v6 is issues with lifter noise as they use a shim type valve system on the older ones. Get a newer (2005 i think) and the issue is no issue. Out of all the cars I test Honda, Acura, Toyota, Infinity, Nissan, and Lexus are by far the most reliable, even after 100k.Most are the same company anyhow.

Also I'm kind of a cheap skate when it come to cars , I will never buy a new one, because I can build my own. I drive a 1984 Toyota Celica, looks like @#$% but works. I now have 425k on the car, 30 k on the new motor and tranny. Side work accepted, hint, hint!!!!!!
