Default 'tis the season (board not bike)

Mammoth opens today for the snow crowd!!!

Snow Report - Updated: Nov 8, 2007 6:13 AM

Hello Skiers and Snowboarders. The wait is over. Mammoth Mountain opens today, November 8. Broadway Express lift opens at 8:30 a.m. and will run until 4 p.m. servicing Broadway trail. There is an 8-14 inch base of natural and manmade snow and there will be multiple rail and jib features set up for your riding enjoyment. Once again, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is the first resort in California to open. Mammoth Mountain will be offering discount adult lift tickets for $35 until more terrain becomes available.

also think this wknd is Sports Chalet annual ski/board sale and swap. never hit their event but most def picked up some great stuff on the cheap at other similar events

Yes they did, but most of it had melted by the time they opened. I was there for opening day last year, and decided it wasn't worth the drive to do four laps on the "ribbon of death" for opening day.... I'll probably hold out until there's a real storm.

ha- i once spent a three day wknd at Mt Tremblant (early season) with barely any snow (6-12 inches if we were lucky) riding the only f'n 4 runs open (2 green and 2 blue)still was fun enough. think i hit every jib and kicker 100x that trip. at least the off mtn exploits were in peak season!!!

If you have an unhealthy obsession with skiing/boarding as I do, make sure you don't miss the ski/board expo at the LA convention center. Site says over 360 exhibitors, that means free swag and Free Lift tickets. I'm already there.

http://www.skidazzle.com/la_index.htm

Stuff I've gotten from going to these = free lift tickets, free snowcat skiing trip, free posters, stickers, swag, hats t-shirts. I know I'm a cheap bastard but I love free ski sh!t.

I used to board and ski, but after I got hooked on the backcountry stuff while living in the Pacific Northwest, I permanently ditched the board. I also raced for a few years in college so that pretty much put the last nail in the coffin for my aspirations to board.

I'm so ready for this, Mammoth & Park City last year was a disappoitment, especially after the two epic snow season prior to last.

Boards & Gear are packed ready to go, just playing the storm watch game.

I will go once it gets a good base, as last year was tough on the bottom of the boards.lol

I can't wait to board again. I’ve taken a couple trips to Killington, VT and one trip to CO. The only place in CA I’ve ridden is Summit. Jason will be new to snowboarding, so now I get to introduce him to something fun!

We just bought all new gear! 2 Boards, boots and bindings (selling our old stuff to some freinds for $400) ...Season passes are on their way!

Let the waiting game begin!

This year we will have a STR on the mountian day, At Summit, with drinks and food at our cabin after.

does anyone know if we're going to have a local season at all? the family was planning on hitting up a cabin around new years, but if its like last year, I'm taking the bike instead of the board.

while not optimal at least local "resorts" are geared to make snow temp permitting. alot of bigger resorts that get huge seasonal accumulations dont invest in snow making equipment. (understandable can can bust a holiday..remember PC olympics. they almost got caught with brown runs)

heres a pic from our rental at BB I think 2 (or 3 seasons back). think got close to 4ft!!!!! by the time it stopped over turkey day weekend!
