Default A question of benefits

So I'm sitting here at work totally burnt out on work. It got me thinking about a vacation. But I'd have to take unpaid because I only get 10 days a year paid leave which I've taken. (I miss my 5 weeks paid vacation in the UK!). So I'm curious as to what you get off a year?

2 weeks PTO plus 2 weeks of paid sick time. 4 weeks total, 9 holidays, and one floater.

well, in my industry (consulting of an environmental kind) it depends on how long you've been in the industry.

1-5 years: 2 weeks
6-10 years: 3 weeks
11-15: 4 weeks
16-20: 5 weeks

but the most i've seen is 5 weeks and that's for the guys who have been in for at least 15 years. I'm getting just over three weeks now (7 year veteran). it also can do with the company- reguardless of how long in the industry, if it's your first year with them, you still only get 2 weeks

3 years at my company as of September. We're only a small company (ten employees). I'm lucky I get medical, lol! And 7 holidays per year.

Haha I know what floater means but not in the sense of a day off work. How is a floater day different than taking one day off work any time of the year?

Feels like it. Considering we have no a/c or fan's and the nearest window is 12' away.

The only bonus I get is getting a half day off on Fridays once my 40 hours are done.

I need a beer.

3 weeks, plus Christmas shutdown. We only get 8 holidays a year, though, including the 2 of shutdown at the end of the year. New Year's Day, Memorial, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and day after, then Christmas Eve, Christmas.

No personal days.

Ah, yes. The life of a migrant worker is difficult. You should bartend, Californians seem to find the British accent very entertaining.

I'm in the same boat man! I got 5 weeks in the UK and came over to find that in the land of the free no one is free from office slavery. I now get 3 weeks here and buy the rest up to and including about 7weeks. If I'm a slave to the $ I'll jsut fight fire with fire and buy back what I want.

I don't know why you guys need all that time off anyways; there's isn't a cricket match or car rally for 5,000 miles of here.

Starting in 2007, i moved up to 4 weeks PTO, plus 10 paid holidays. Would love to have more, but really, my company is more generous than most when it comes to time off, so i can't complain.

Well, I used to get 4 weeks after working there for 10 years, but as of today I'm on suspension. Seems my boss can't accept the fact that I'll kick his little nazi arse. And after I told him I'd do it, he went crying to the owner who called me up and asked me to take some time off till he got back in town, so now I have a couple days to ride. Even though I get 4 weeks a year they never let me go that long, they always come up with some excuse to make me stay or cut my vacation short.

Funny thing is I work for an architects firm designing nice things and I always include A/C!

I heard Vegas is a good place to bartend

Vacation time? What's that? Some of us self-employed types don't get paid vacations.

Then again, I just got back from seven weeks out on the road shooting and riding all over the country for work.

Your right. Work sucks!
