Where did you find x-7's at that price, I should buy a spare or two. If you want a Shimano HG 53 brand new, $16 and it's yours, I'll bring it the next time we ride. One of the nice things about SRAM cassettes is that they are made of some sort of spring steel alloy, that allows the teeth to give when shifting, so you don't bend them, as well as the carrier. The 980 is a pretty high end cassette from SRAM, light too, about 310 grams, I think.
We were lucky we had a bit of daylight left to get things done and get out of there before dark.
I got the wheel back to ship-shape without too much trouble and was able to make those black chunks of metal once again resemble a rear derailleur. The cassette seems to be fine and the new dropout is installed.
All I need is a new chain (a sign from above?) and a shifting cable, as I think I have a section of housing, to make it all work. At least that is my plan. Well see if it all works out.
Lucky for me that if I do need a rear derailleur, I found X.7's on closeout for $39.99.
If you are interested in volunteering, check out this link and send her an email... she'll automatically get back to you... you may also want to mention that you would be coming up to Downieville with me.
Hey Jeff, Took my new fork into Marzocchi today. It has excessive stiction and seems to be getting worse. They said no charge for the repair. Seem like cool guys, I'm supposed to get it back next Friday. Got my stitches out this morning and guess what...I re-opened the wound! I was at the movies with my kids and slid forward in my seat, felt something like a pulling sensation and just thought it was the adhesive on the band-aid. No such luck, I have a gaping open wound! I have steri-strips on it now and have to go back to the doctor on monday so he can trim the edges and re-stitch. I'm bummed!
