Mike it was in the early 70's when I was last out there. I believe that you pick it up at Ferndale. Here is a Google map follow Hwy 211 (Mattloe Road) but don't go out to Shelter Cove it is an out and back.

I'm having a bit of a difficulty in finding the lost coast route enterance. Heading south do you know where I can pick it up at? I've talked to a few people who have done it but they are very vague in telling me where to get in at.
