I was rockin' the full face at the BBQ this weekend cuz the half shell finally broke. I've had it since I first got into biking, so it was falling apart, and it did just that; I picked it up and it separated
. So, I need a new lid.I'm looking towards an XC lid. I've been looking an a Giro E2; I've heard they keep your melon super cool, but I haven't made my final decision yet. I want to see what helmets people are using and what they like or don't like about them. -Late |

The Specialized Decibel is a pretty sweet helmet; super light. The padding deteriorates really quickly, though.
I really dig my Giro Xen, but it's pricey also, and not so light. Good coverage. Everyone seems to be really digging on the new Fox XC helmets lately, though. You could always check that. See if the Path has anything on sale this Sunday ![]() |

I just switched from a Xen to a Fox. Both are good but I like the Fox better. Better fit for my head and much better airflow. It didn't hurt that it was cheaper as well.
I had to rip the stupid spoiler off the back though. I'm not fast enough to be rockin' a spoiler. C

I say go Xen. But not cheap, like $100 on sale, but can be had for $60-70 on blow out especially if you like Pink.
I have a Fox too, and I like the short visor on it. The stupid spoiler you can pull off easy. But careful with the retension system on the back. The plastic with the notches on it to tighten the helmet is super thin and can break really easy. Mine broke inside my bike bag. There's another company with a Helmet just like the Xen and the Fox. They have it at the Path, Protection and shell look really strong but the Helmet is kinda of heavy. Anyhow, I like the Xen, fits me better. Fox is good, just be delicate with that retension adjustment system. |

I tried a Xen in large and it dropped right on my melon.. Tried the fox and felt slight pressure spots but then again I didnt spend much time tweaking the adjustments.... The Fox's look cool as hell too

A few years back Giro gave my LBS some Xens to try out and to tell them how they liked them. I was one of the lucky ones to get one of these prototypes. I loved that helmet. Best I ever had.
When we went to UT, I left it at home so I bought another when I was out there, but it fit entirely different. When I got home I compared the two and there were a number of differences, but the most obvious was the fit. One day on the Gabrielino trail I crashed and cracked it. I contacted Giro and they said it was only a prototype and that the mold for that particular helmet had been destroyed. Bummer. My new Xen, just didn't feel as good as the old one, so when Fox came out with the Flux, I tried one on and it was almost as good as the prototype I had for years. Venting is very good and the weight is not an issue. Fit is almost perfect and I love the cammy color. I've only had it a few months, so I can't speak of the durability, but I trust Fox to make a good product. My suggestion is to try them both on and see how they fit. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

I like the Fox as well, but I'm not in the market for a helmet since I already have 3. One of them is a Specialize Decibal. I like it alot because for me, it's comfortable and has lots of vents both front and back. I also have a Bell Sweep, also has lots of vents, the 3rd is my helmetcam lid(Bell Influx). The first 2 about the same price. The 3rd a much cheaper. Check all of them out and if $$ is not issue, you'll have plenty to choose from. Good luck.

I have to agree with most other posts here and give two thumbs up to the Giro Xen. I have the black camo version and think it's stylin'!
You can pick up a good deal on a '06 Xen on ebay ![]() BTW: Not a good idea to leave a helmet in the garage during summer as heat can compromise the foam component without any visible changes. This could possibly cause it to fail when you need it most ![]()

. So, I need a new lid.

..Only when I get 1st, and I haven't had one of those in 2 years.
. I recommend that you try on both a Bell and a Giro helmet to see which fits better. The Bell tends to fit a rounder head and the Giro fits a more oblong narrow head, sorry I haven't tried on a Fox helmet, yet
.
