Question Anyone have experience w/ Mavic crossmax enduro's

Looking to buy a new wheelset....weight is a priority. Budget $500. Use: XC races. Must be rim. Let me know if this would be a good purchase or any other suggestions.

Thanks.

you could also look into custom wheel builds for that price range. Something like hope pro II hubs with dt 4.1 rims and dt spokes and nipples would be right around that $500 price range

For $50 more you should be able to find some X-max SL rim types. Really stiff, strong, light. Nylong bushings may require attention every 18months or so but its a small price to pay.

I also think Hope Pro IIs are good. They're loud though, but they weigh about the same as ChrisKing ~300g hub. The front hub is also convertable between 20mm and std quick Release. I have a pair of these by the Path and I haven't had to touch them.

A friend had a light set built with DT 4.1's w/WTB Lazerdisc lites by the Path too for about $500. Though, check on the WTB hubs because some folks have had problems. They may have changed the rear bearings recently because of this. But they're wicked light and much cheaper than King.

For $540 Dave Thomas of Dave's Wheels will build you a really nice set. I think his "stock set" are American Classic front/Custom White Ind. Rear on Bontrager Mustangs. He does a lot of interesting stuff with mixing spoke guages and spoke manufacturers and lacing patterns. But he's a really good guy to talk to on the phone.

or Mike Garcia at www.oddsandendos.com Heard good things about him too.

Are you going to run UST? I hear the DT rim strips for the 4.1s are really easy to use or maybe some of the new Stan's rims.

Hope this helps.

Carl

If he is, he could also run the mavic 819's which are UST... had a set built w/ Hope Pro IIs for about $500 and I think Jordan had a set done at the path for about $450....

I have 2 sets of Hope bulbs and I have a set of Hope Pro2s coming in. I think Hope makes the best hubs out there if you are looking for the best balance between price, weight, ease of maintenence and repair and durability

Uh-huh. I am just surprised that the hubs don't leak more, considering that "English craftsmanship".
