Default Need parts for XC build

Yo - So a buddy of mine gratiously hooked me up with his older, but nice and light, Klein hardtail XC frame. He knows I've been interested in buying or building up a light XC hardtail, and he had to get rid of a bunch of his stuff and knew I'd use it. It also comes with a rear Mavic CrossMax wheel, XT front derailer, and good V-brake rear.

So I've been messing around on the net researching parts and tallying up theoretical build options. All come up quite pricey. If I'm going to do this I do want to do it right and build it up with good, quality and lightweight parts. Most likely, I'll just buy everything retail. But I would consider used parts (in good condition). I don't want to fuss around buying one of this, and one that, from someone. But I wouldn't turn down a package of parts if someone has something to offer. To make this worth it for both of us, this needs to be a lot of everything you don't see there -- which is obviously a lot. I'm inclinded to get a brand new drive train, but I could go used on a lot of other parts (good 4 inch fork w/ lock-out, front wheel, front disc, shifters, brakes levers, rear derailer, stem/headset, saddle/seatpost, cables, etc). Hit me up PM if you've got a bunch of stuff you'd want to get rid of as a package and we'll talk.

- thx for reading

I was thinking about that and I still might. If I went SS, I was also thinking about putting a rigid front 29er fork on it and putting a front 29 er wheel. But I think I decided against making a franken-bike 69er and throwing the geometry off, possible even jeopardizing the frame. So yeah, it'll most likely stay a 26er, but I might go single speed. I'll have to see if I want to do some XC racing. I did OK in a couple of the Fontana races but felt I could do a bit better on a lighter bike. That's why I'm thinking making it a full-on light XC bike.

I just don't know. Some favour my buddy did for me: now I've gotta big ol' money pit -- not matter what I do! I do know this, I totally want one of those snazzy Magura Marty SLs up front. Or the Hayes stroker, if it's lighter.

I have the following available:

110 x 6 deg Race Face Deus stem - very good cond

XT 9spd shifters - very good cond

XT rear derailleur - very good cond

Saddles:
A Bontrager that's similar to the WTB Speed V - I think it's the Select model.

Another Bontrager misc model - sort of a fr/dh shape like the Big Earl but solid color

Ancient Specialized road saddle with cool McDonaldland orange & yellow trim. Rough around the edges, but light.

Titec straight bars.

(Or there's set of used Easton Monkeylite XC carbon exploding handlebars you're welcome to dig out of my trash can...)

Make offer(s)

edit:
Almost forgot the fine quality Rock Shox Jett fork. That baby is calling out to be ridden!
