got there right when it started and picked up a:

I was there, saw Sharky and Nam, I scored on a SDG Belair RL seat with Ti rails for $45.00! Tony G was there looking good without the neck brace. The ride was good. 6 of us left from Bike Co. around 9 and went up Serano Creek Trail. When we got to Whiting at the Portola gate, it was closed, so we rode up Glenn Ranch Rd, to Saddleback Ranch Rd, to Ridgeline which put us right on Santiago Canyon Rd. Up Majeska, up STT, a short break at the flag, down the Luge and back to Bike Co. by way of Aliso Creek & Serano Creek trails. About 22 miles. Total ride time about 2 1/2 hours. The trail was perfect, nice and tacky. Sorry, no pics.

I must have been surrounded by STR peeps when I was at the sale around 10:15, but I didn't exactly want to walk up to folks and say "Err...excuse me, but do I know you from the internet?"

Scored a nice deal on a Thomson stem also, but got shut out looking for shorts with the right fit/price combo. Those were great deals on the Bel Air saddles. I may be kicking myself for a while over not grabbing one.

Oh yeah: And what's up with Whiting being closed still when most others close by are open? As of sunset tonight, the clouds over Whiting were looking pretty gloomy, so I'm skeptical about the next day or two as well.

waldo, since a lot of the trails on whiting are under the shade of trees it takes a few days for the trail to dry... mustard will still be muddy for a few days after a rain as well.

Yeah, I guess I have to accept that. I just didn't think we got that much that they couldn't have re-opened at least some parts by this afternoon. But I appreciate that they err on the side of caution: Much better than to have the trails torn up in squishy conditions, and there are certainly other options.

And I agree about the Bike Co sale - Nice idea, but not much stuff there. Please stock up more next time, guys!

I used to live in Foothill Ranch and it closes for at least 2 days after any rain. Whiting will be closed for at least another day to allow it to dry out. It drizzled again tonight throughout So County, so it could be closed until Tues.

And just as I read this, it started raining - not drizzling - here on the edge of Whiting. Guess I'm not so bummed that I have several long work days ahead.
