Looking for some suggestion in a good wheel set? I ride a 06 FSR and enjoy the bike but it would be nice to lighten it up a bit so I have been swapping out parts here and there. Next up I think should be the wheel set. Im running what came with the bike I believe its Mavic x317 Rims and Specialized hubs.
Looking for some suggestions something light but still strong. Suggestions? Thanks! I ride mostly XC stuff and All Mtn stuff. I thought the collective wealth of knowledge here could help! Would rather not spend what it cost to buy my bike lol.Jordan |

What's your price range?
I've got a hand-built set of Mavic 717's with DT Revolution spokes & XT hubs. My riding is XC, but being in the 200lb range and having a bad case of "see the rock - hit the rock" syndrome, I'm not exactly easy on them. I've had them for about 8 months and am very happy. They were a great combo of weight, strength, & price. Of course, if you have a bigger budget than I did, that opens things up a lot. If I could have afforded it, I'd have built some DT's with Chris King hubs. (you also have to be able to tolerate hubs that sound like a swarm of bees, but that's part of the cool factor) Whatever you go with, get them hand-built by a skilled person. Mine were from Adrenaline; I've seen good reports from the Path too. And there's that sale coming up at The Bike Co that someone posted here - might be a good opportunity. |

what spoke model is that? i'd go with everything the same, but run DT competition spokes. If you can order the rear hubs, go with the 10mm hub and run a hadley 10mm rear axle (costs about $25)

The wheelbuilder is very important, especially with the 819 rims. I recently built a hadley/823, which is just the fat guy version of the 819 and it was a tough wheel to build. I ended taking it to the Path to have them fix it up for me.
I would also recommend the 10mm thru axle, nice and stiff. |
