Why don't you ask for a gravity retarder too? Anyway I need to get in a long SS ride. Geared bike retired until Spring Fling...need to shake this MTBing laziness.

Matt,
I think you're in luck. I think I found what you're missing. I was doing a ride a few months back and found this dealy-bob on the trail, and I'm not quite sure what it is. Do you have a pic of what you need?

Yo Burner, so you've got a REBA too? On your other bike, I assume. I've got one on my Trance. I've considered whether it's worth getting the Pop-Loc but it's pretty easy for me to just reach down and flip the lock-out off or on. My problem is that I lock it out a lot and then forget to unlock on a downhill and get halfway down before I figure out why I'm getting thrashed. I'm curious why you want the Pop-loc, considering it's kinda costly ($99), and it adds all that business to your bike's front end.

yeah, I have a reba on my dos niner... with the poploc (I love it). I'm actually looking for this one for a friend who I'm helping build up a bike. It wouldn't be that big a deal to reach down, but with the poploc you actually change the knob on top of the fork leg, to support the remote switch, once this is done you can't reach down anymore and do anything. His fork has already been setup to use the poploc, so he needs the switch.
I have had situation where I forget to unlock, but it's all much easier when you have a switch under your thumb. |

And that PopLock cable once installed sticks out more than the brake/derailleur lines! I would be worried about it catching a branch (if you've seen some of my rides, you may understand my paranoia).
BTW, if you don't want to add this part, you can modify the existing damper so it's not spring loaded. Remove the cartridge, and pop the spring off a pin. When you reinstall the lever, replace the white plastic piece with an o-ring, which is how the lever setup is done. Now the knob will function like a normal compression knob, and you don't have the goofiness of another lever and cable. Through ebike.com (I think), you can order the normal billet compression knob and o-ring for relatively cheap, or the plastic one even cheaper. |
