Default Bike Speakers

Hey check this out! I met with a retailer today of a new MP3 speaker company that allows you i-pod etc. to be placed in this padded case that has speakers (2xAA powered) that you can velcro strap to your ride. The speakers on the outside of the case. It's not something for the hard corp rides b/c of weight, techno/geek factor, etc. but it's fun. I got one to demo around town on the beach cruiser. Probably won't see me using it on the trail. Nature deserves its peace!

Sellers emailed instructions on how to order. This will be hitting the market through his distributors soon. If you gotta have...
he says: "go to his website: BBS-90 Century Full Tailored Infant. Please have people make the inquiry through the contact us page, and I will get in touch with them, and they can pay through pay-pal once they get the invoice E-Mailed to them. They are so new that they are not on the site yet and are not set up for individual piece selling yet. They should be on next week some time."

Sorry the picture is so small, I'll try to get some better ones!

That's something I might use on my road bike. I can't ride with my Ipod, because I wasn't hearing traffic right, so I just stopped, looks like this may work.

You think I'm worried about looking like a geek??? Hell, I ride in Lycra, if that ain't geeky, I don't know what is.

I'd love to use this on my commuter. It's already heavy as sh*t. Another few pounds wouldn't kill me.

This looks promising too.

3. What You're Looking At: Prototype CamelBak M.U.L.E. SC10

Why: Look closely at the shoulder straps of CamelBak's new M.U.L.E. SC10 (Skull Candy Edition for the 10th Anniversary of CamelBak's premier mountain bike hydration system) and you'll notice two speakers and control buttons. You'll be able to use your cell phone and MP3 player hands-free without shutting off the outside world (like headphones do). The white battery pack and orange Prototype CamelBak M.U.L.E. SC10 wires reside inside the pack where you plug in your devices. Quick access controls on the shoulder straps allow you to adjust the volume, change the track and switch from your MP3 player to your cell phone. If you want one of these packs, expect to wait awhile; it won't be available until April '07. More info at camelbak.com and skullcandy.com

I once did a night ride where we had music - it was pretty surreal but actually very cool.

WOW, 250 smackers for a camelback? Looks like it was designed for snow people anyways. The idea is trick, but the cost is a lot more then I'd consider for a hydration pack.

And BackCountry has them for 200.

I don't know though, is it cool to subject all your fellow outdoor enthusiaists to the music you like? Blaring music out on the trails, isn't something that fits in, if you ask me ( I know you didn't ). For the city riding, it would be okay, but everyone knows a true roadie wouldn't be caught dead with a hydration pack strapped to their backs.

Dammit, am I trying to talk myself into this?

I agree it will work good on the road bike especially around the babes in lycra.

I'll second that... I have a Troy Lee Designs full face that now collects dust because the $35.00 Azonic helmet is so great! It is perfect because you can still hear everything around you, but you can hear your music too. Nothing like riding to music! It's so cool because with headphones you are so isolated. With this helmet, you can rock but still be safe.

Not to be a pill but that first product looks lame (and so does the pricey Camelback one). Anything with speakers that small, that far away from your ears, is going to sound like crap and just seems gimicky.

Plus, PainFreak makes a good point about questioning whether others need to be subjected to your tunes on the trail, bike path, etc.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I say go with headphones if you want to listen to music and have your tunes sound good. Yes, the tradeoff is being isloated from outside noise but you have to decide if that's OK. I think it is. I guess that Azonic helmet might be a middle ground, but I'd want to try one first. I ride sometimes with the Shure sound insolator in-ear headphone. Yeah, I can't hear anything but my music, but that's the point. To each his or her own, I guess.

I listen to music a lot on the trail, especally going up. I'm always gettin run over because I can't hear people coming down.
I had stooped last night on the Luge to pick up some trash, I guy went wizzing by into the switch backs, about 5 mins later I went round the corner to find him spread all over the place & I hadn't heard a thing.
Good job he was fine, & I still caught a B*t*h A** guitar solo.

I ride with the Oakley Orokers they are glasses with earphones built in then with a bluetooth adapter you can listen and control your ipod remotly with NO wires they are sick and last for over 5 hours on a single charge plus you can switch lenzes and wear the earbuds outside your ear the music sounds great and you can still hear everything
