Default Building an All MOuntain bike

well ive changed my mind from building up a DH race rig to building up an all mountain bike.

I have in mind a Chumba Evo and will probably roll with a 66rc2x

Can anyone help me with some good components for a bike like this?
Thanks muhco

weyland has a pretty sweet setup on his evo

Here's a basic rundown of the planned build.

Fork - Marzocchi All-Mountain 1

Headset - Chris King
Stem - Thomson X4
Handlebars - WTB TXC O/S
Grips - ODI Ruffian Lock-ons

Seatpost - Thomson Elite 31.6mm x 367mm
Saddle - WTB Rocket V Race

Brakes - Magura Louise FR

Crankset - Shimano XT M760 22-32-44 175mm
Shifters - Shimano XT SL M951
Front Derailleur - Shimano XTR E-Type
Rear Derailleur - Shimano XT M752 (Non-Rapid Rise!)
Cassette - Shimano XT M760 11-34T
Chain - Shimano Dura-Ace/XTR CN7701

Wheelset - DT Swiss XR4.1 rims laced to Hadley QR hubs
Tires - WTB Mutano Raptor Race 2.4 (F/R)
Skewers - Hope Stainless Steel QR

only thing i would change would be the shifters and rear D to sram x9

glad to hear you are thinking more trail bike dude.....i think you will be happy about having that option for some of your rides.

the fork is too much for the EVO though in my opinion. i would stick with max 150mm/160mm, though you could get a 66 SL I suppose and set it to less than the 170mm or 180mm (for 2007 models) travel but still. I went with a 2007 66 SL for that reason exactly, since it had adjustable travel so i wont die on climbs and the coil 66 is way too much added weight for a trail bike that i dont need/want.

as for components, heck yeah we can all give you what our wishlist would be.....i just built a budget build trailbike with what i think are seriously kick ass solid parts, without barely any bling (except rotors, thats it). Some parts could be lighter etc...but these parts suit my needs just perfectly and I dont care much about the weight so its all good in the hood.

for the heck of it, here is my build for a bike not too much different than the EVO in terms of how i plan to use it:

fork - 2007 Marz 66 SL ATA
headset - King
stem - Deity
handlebar - Deity
shifters - Sram X7 twisters
Brakes - 2007 Magura Louise with Venti Rotors
seatpost - Thomson
saddle - WTB Pure V SLT
crankset - Shimano Hone 2-ring with bash
Pedals - Shimano 646
Chain - Sram PC951
Cassette - Sram PG950 11-34
f.derailleur - Shimano Deore
r.derailleur - Sram X7
wheelset - Hope Bulb rear, Hope Pro 2 front / DT 5.1 rims
tires – Big Betty 2.4 ORC rear / GG front
seatpost clamp – Hope
skewers – Hope
chainguide - Blackspire stinger

honestly man.....the Z1 Light might be enough depending on what you are gonna do with the bike and those can be had at sweet deals right now. But you are probably pretty crazy so maybe you will want bigger stanchions. The 2006 (Dean has one) Z1 Light has white lowers.

If you want a white 66 SL, you need to get a 2007 like me. Retail on those is about $900 but if you have connections it will be cheaper, but not cheap. But if you could live with a black fork, you can get a good deal on a 2006 66 SL.

I agree with Fo - I think the 66 may be a bit much for that bike. The geo still feels rad on the dh with a Pikeish A-C so I think the Z1 height would be pretty darn perfect. Plus the 06 Z1s come in white and are very well liked. That said, you could probably get by on a 66 so long as it has ETA or some sort of travel adjust for climbing.

I hate my '06 white 66SL, it ruined my color scheme. I'll be willing to trade anyone for a '06 black 66SL.
