44-45lbs is WAYYYYYY too heavy for that bike! That is gonna be hell climbing that thing......I used to climb my BigHit around Aliso and it was 45lbs. Twice up Cholla and I was done, and I'm a pretty strong climber. I'm sure a lot of the weight is in the components but you would spend a small fortune trying to lighten that bike to under 40lbs where it should be. Yeah the price is right, but is pedaling around a bike that heavy gonna be right for you?

yeah.....the novelty of the bigger bike, at mid 40 lbs, is gonna wear off REALLY, REALLY fast.

I guess my question is what type of bike are you looking for? There are some awesome options for 5/6" travel bikes that can be pedalled....do you need a true freeride bike? Guess it depends on what a person means by "all mountain", "freeride", etc..

i really doubt it is that heavy, maybe 38 lbs, i have a Banshee Scream, w/dual crown fork, the Scream is 13 lbs frame only, the scream more in that realm of weight 44-45 lbs.
don't get shy about it jump on the deal! when it's gone it's gone

ok,ok from the horses mouth... 43 lbs (i stand corrected)...personally i would still get the bike, weight has never been an issue and never will be
it's a steal

Yes I know a few people that shuttle Mt. Wilson and San Juan...most of the group rides on this site are usually 10-25 miles and 2-5000ft climbing. I also know a couple of people like, STJunkie and Winston, that can ride heavy bikes uphill all day long...those people are rare.

Is this is going to be a second bike? I would get it for for Gravity days....but I would suggest keeping another bike for XCing.

If you lightened it in key areas-i'm pretty sure 2.6" tires aren't neccessary-it would help with weight, and especially rolling resistance.

I agree on the price, it's a steal!

Thats what i'm trying to decide, i would keep the Gary Fisher but want something bigger to play around on. Something without an air shock and more then 4" of travel.
I don't know if i want something big and burly or more of an all-mountain, ie. 5-Spot for you Homers. I know the 5's outta my price range but maybe something like the Coiler for sale here on STR.
There's so many good bikes trying to decide on one is so hard

Though admittedly I have not ridden one, at this price, I would not hesitate to be a test rat. The part spec is killer at this price....though still more than what you originally planned.

Right now (since 20% off of already sale price) = $1839

This bike will be a killer all around all mountain type of bike (a la Turner 5 Spot-ish type of riding). Totally sweet part spec at this price point.

Lucas, if you want, I'll let ya ride my Heckler on a downhill s/t some time, it is a medium, might be a tad small, I dunno. Just wanted to let ya know I'd let ya try it out if ya wish.

Lucas - For sure that's a great deal but unless you're shuttling, I'm not sure you're going to enjoy the climbs. If it were me looking for something that inspired a little more confidence on downhills and small to medium drops, I'd look at something in the 5/6" range under 35 lbs.

Dino's right. If you can find a used Heckler, that would be a pretty good ride. Find a frame in your price range and you could use most of your existing parts too.

Just my $.02

go buy a noodle of a bike...light and flexy. so many people afraid of a little weight. get over it, sack up and go. yeah you're not going to beat Tinker on the thing, but who cares
remeber used, no warranty, look at the guy who bought the used Cortina, rusted bolts a wrecked seat mast e.t.c...

Right now, Tani at The Path has a screaming deal on Ellsworth Moment Bikes. He is throwing in a free Zoke 66 Fork or free Rock Shock Lyrik Fork.

the moment is a great ride- only been on it once but was very impressed. climbed and handled very well and nice and plush. Think fork was Pike however (air shock in back). At the right price suggest consider that as an option. Tani and the crew at the path are good guys as well. they are highly knowledgable and totally stand by their product/work

I knew I was on touchy ground, I thought that I played the grey area well by not commenting on what a great bike it is.

Having a fr/dh bike is great but are you really going to utilize the added strength and travel of this tank youre thinking of getting? I just sold a 7point7 to my buddy and he loves it, but where we live it is inevitable that there will be pedaling in most of the trails we ride. 40+ pounds on a bike is alot unless youre doing shuttle runs or minimal climbing. I say look at some 5/6 inch travel trailbikes that will be burly enough to handle most of the drops and jumps in So.Cal but will still be able to climb semi-efficiently and handle an all day ride.(2007 iron horse 6point8 is awesome and is around 34 pounds or check out the mk series too.)
