Default Foothill Cyclery going out of business

So, my dad tells me he works with a guy who's friends with a guy (no, I'm not seting up a joke) who just bought the entire inventory of Foothill Cyclery in La Verne. Anyone know about this at all? Apparently this guy is going to sell the stuff on ebay. My dad thinks maybe he'll let me get first dibs on some stuff, though. I'm thinking about getting a nicer road bike/commuter. I like the Surly Cross Check and the Spec'd Sequoia. I think I want something that I can ride to work and then ride on the weekends (sans trunk and panniers, now) when I can't hit the dirt or when Pain Freak takes me on a Century. I like my Trek 830 for commuting but it would be nice to go faster, too.

Anyway, I'll ask the guy when I get to talk to him, if he might cut some special deals for my buddies at STR. I'm sure Foothill Cyclery's not selling any Turners (or Ventanas or whatever else ungodly expensive rigs you people ride) but maybe there's some good stuff in there. We'll see. I'll post whatever info I can.

Sorry to hear that they're going out of business. That being said, I don't think there was much inventory there.

They had some Treks there a while back, some pretty good road bikes too, but I haven't been in there in 3 or 4 months. Shame those guys were a couple good people. They were going to try to supply the triathlete crowd. They had some good stuff in that regard. In todays day with the internet and all the price matching it's almost impossible to make a decent living with a LBS. I do what I can to support mine.

Sad truth right there. I don't know what's dying faster, the LBS or the local hot rod speed shops.
I support the local guys too.
Those that don't better not complain when they have to mail their bike back to price point or speedgoat to get worked on. lol Could you imagin that? lol

**chime**... i use both the local shop and mail order. i 've spent $5,000.00 on bikes over at two wheeler dealer,(great shop) not to mention all the bits and pieces and service work. i hit up la habra cycles for parts and service work too. the flip side when you can get a "deore" (budget) r. derailuer for 19.00 at Jenson are you going to pay 35.00 at the shop? there is a fine line or it's a broad one, depending where you stand. bottom line...i watch my bottom line, over the years i've learned to do most of my own work and find the best deals. yeah it sucks when good shops go under

I do believe that Rich sold several years ago to a guy named Dan. Rich's father sold Coates a few years ago, forget the new owner's name.

Yep, Rich sold to Jason and Dan and Rich's dad sold the shop to Corey (an ex-employee who had worked for him for years) who now owns Coates. His philosophy is a lot different from the old mans and he has changed the shop a lot. Big inventory and very capable wrenchs.
