that does seem like the deal. I wonder how much that shock would cost if you were to try and just buy it. I bet it would be well over 1/2 the total cost of that frame set.

and for people like me who dont have many extra parts laying around and dont really care about weight (yet) you can get the complete bike for 1000 bucks which sounds good

I was not knocking the shock at all. I'm just saying for that price you are almost buying a shock and getting the rest for free.

I do not have any time on any Giant Bikes...that said, I would not hesitate buying one.

That looks like a screaming deal...did you call them to see if it is not a typo error? If it is true, the way I look at it; if they have a frame your size, what do you have to loose. Many of us have spent that much money on a rear hub or a PUSHed Fox Shock.

The shock is the weak link in the deal. I had a manitou rear shock originally on my Tracer and I had to send it back twice because the lockout wouldn't work. After getting a new shock the thing wouldn't hold air and sent it back again. Once I got it back I sold it and bought a Fox.

That's a smokin' deal. If that's not a typo I wouldn't walk, I'd run to grab one.

Hey, you guys aren't supposed to post that kind of stuff

Just kidding.

I saw that deal about a month ago, but have been keeping it to myself--because--I want to get one but won't have the $$ for about another 5-6 weeks. I figure the less people that know, the better the chance is that they'll still have one in my size I want to buy one and tranfer all my HT's parts over and use it as a back-up bike.

I called WheelWorld last month to see how many they had and they wouldn't tell me over the phone. The guy I talked to said they have a bunch of complete Reigns in their warehouse and when you want a frame, they just disassmble it and give you the frame. They have the complete bike for $999, which isn't top level components but is still a great deal.

I'm thinking they will still have them when I'm ready to buy. Last year they had Giant VT3 frames for $300 for quite some time(at least 5 months). They still have them in 21 inch for $199.

I have about 2 hours on the Reign and it is a sweet riding bike. Super plush and no real noticable BOB.

Now don't you guys go and buy them all up

That is a killer deal, but Giant exaggerates the amount of travel they claim for their bikes. I was at a LBS and we tried every which way to measure the amount of travel they claimed and could get no more then 4.5 inches. Then we tried the Trance and only got 3. The Faith was good but still over half an inch off of claimed travel. We also measuered the Konas and they were spot on.That said, it's still a great deal. I own a Giant (road bike ) and I love their bikes. Quality is there and I have had no issues whatsoever and I'm approaching 15,000 miles on it.

I called Wheel World and got an operator who would actually answer my questions. He said they have a "couple hundred" in their warehouse, but couldn't tell me how much of each size. I told him my situation and he said they should have an 18" left in a month or so, but of course, no guaranties.

He said they are on a 2-3 week waiting period though. Meaning, he explained, that if you go in and buy one, you will have to wait 2-3 weeks before it arrives at their store for you to pick up. He said they need a $100 deposit to hold/reserve one. He said that has to be done in person, or you could send a check or money order to them, but no credit cards over the phone.

My sister lives in Huntington Beach and she is going to go in tomorrow and put the deposit down on a frame for me

Now all I need is a 5" travel fork and I'm in business.

Hey folks,

I snatched one of these up when they first came out awhile back. Nice frame. Only a dozen or so rides on it but it beats the pants off the horst-link bikes I've ridden. Very plush and active when braking going DH. Climbs pretty solid too. You can overcome the platform if you stand and really hammer on it, but most of the time it's pretty firm but opens when you need it.

RS Pike seems to be a pretty nice match for that frame. No problems with Manitou 3-way yet as reported above.

Pd-up.

Ya, the manager at my LBS said that on the Specialized website, they talk smack about how all the other suspension designs are inferior to FSR and show diagrams and other struff supporting this. However, they don't mention Giant's "Maestro" suspension at all. He says that it's the closest thing to FSR that he's seen. He also said that Giant had to change up the design a couple times because it infringed on Specialized's FSR patent (By the way, I'm not saying I support that theory, just going off what he said about Specialized's claims.)

Anyone know if that info is accurate?? I'm only going off what I was told from one source. I hate to act like that's 100% true when I don't know for certain myself.

I thought they had to change it up because it was too close to Santa Cruz's VPP patent.

It was actually the DW-Link patent they were infringing on.

No matter, that's a killer deal on that frame.
