I think it is a bit pricey for one rim. I am running oh Sun rhino lites with XT hubs and haven't had a single issue with them yet

all depends on how much coin you are willing to spend of course.....

For a "trailbike" with normal "trail bike riding", I honestly think the wheelset to beat, without a doubt, would be the DT Swiss 5.1d rims with Hope Pro II hubs, period. These hubs are light too.....and the rims are by FAR, the best ~500 grams rims out there.....tougher and wider than Mavic 819s for sure (and not French).....plus, the new 5.1 DT tubeless conversion kit is gonna kick ass just like their 4.1d rim version does.

Dollar for dollar, this shizzle yo' My dawg Larry Mettler or Paul Fleshman can probably due em pretty easily for $450....and they are probably considered among the best wheelbuilders around by many. Hope has bling colors for you shallow people too....

my 2 cents.....

Another vote for Hope hubs here.
Light and well built. I have never had a problem.

since i don't know much about the DT Swiss tubeless conversion... are they like the stans kits? meaning is there a liquid type sealant for punctures and whatnot? or are you suppose to put some stan's sealant in there as well? just curious as i think i'm gonna go with the DT 6.1 for the next wheelset, but i like using the sealant.

Just remember when you buy at Jenson to click on the Jenson graphic here first and then buy them. When you do that STR gets a commission.

sort of like the stans kit, but quite a bit better. the DT Swiss tubless conversion kit is made specifically for DT Swiss rims and I believe they are made by Eclipse in the EU. The rim strips are more robust, fit better (since made for these rims), and I think unlike Stans, the valve stem is not connected to the rim strip which is a pain if you have to put in a tube on the trail or whatever since you can remove only the stem on Stans...

most people also put in some Stans just for extra flat protection.....just like some people put in Stans on Mavic 819 rims to seal holes quickly.

not sure if there is a kit for the 6.1 rims yet.....i know the 5.1 version is just now available. I have run the kit on 2 sets of 4.1 rims and NEVER had an issue, not once. But, I used UST tires which make it more robust....i just dont get good vibes from using non UST on tubless setups.....perhaps if i were a racer boy for a race i might consider it to save every gram possible.

I've got my DT 5.1 tubeless kits at home, just haven't pulled the Stan's kits out yet. I had to convert them for the trip to AZ and the DT kits came the following day after I got back.

BTW: that first link you posted up with the CK hub Jose is a rim brake set up only.

Default Too light weight

Jose - that's not a very heavy duty wheelset. If you want a set for trail riding I wouldn't go lighter on the rims than Mavic 819's or DT 5.1's. If you go with those XTR hubs, you'll need an adaptor for your rotors too. If it were me, I'd spend another $100 and get the Hope Pro 2's w/ DT 5.1's.

I totally agree with Craig, if you're looking at spending $350 before tax/shipping on those wheels you'd be much better off having a set of Hope hubs/819's or 5.1's handbuilt by Larry or someone. It will be much stronger and durable for you bub!

I'll vouch for both places. Larry is a bit slow sometimes (but it's to be expected when dealing with someone that has a good wheelbuilding reputation) depending on his workload but the end product is definitly worth it. He is very good about shipping items that he has in stock and his pricing is more than fair.

I've dealt with Tani at The Path and had my front wheel built there. Quick turnaround and I haven't had to have my wheel trued at all and I'm pushing 270 with my Camelback.

I can also personally vouch for Larry as he has built 2 wheelsets for me. Having said that, there is another superstar in Larry's league that I HIGHLY recommend.....for any bike part, to include wheels. One of the coolest guys (like Larry) but with generally quicker turnaround for sure. Prices pretty much spot on with Larry as they are probably 2 of the top wheelbuilder around, as well as 2 of the top Ventana and Turner dealers.

Call Chad at +1 406-369-0487 and tell him Fo sent you. Devalls3@aol.com, weisite http://www.redbarnbicycles.com Chad built me my Ventana wheelset which is flawless.

Another great wheelbuilder, who is currently building my Ventana, is Paul Fleshman (mountain pedaler). pauliemon@comcast.net , also, tell him Fo sent you if you go with him. Chad, Larry, and Paul know one another which is sort of cool.....except I always feel guilty for 2 of them when i buy crap from the other.......good thing i buy a lot of crap

cheers

Chad built my hope bulb/dt 4.1 wheels which came out nicely. Skippy also had his wheels built with Chad.

I don't know if you want to go completely custom but I just got back from The Path and they had a SunSingletrack/XT hubs wheelset hanging from the ceiling priced at $110.
