I am currently looking to purchase a used hard tail to do some trail riding. I am a student so I don't have alot of money to spend and I was wondering if anyone knew where I should look for some good deals. I am about 5'10" and would probably ride a 17" frame. Thanks.

How much you want to spend?
Did you see this thread? (http://socaltrailriders.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1849) If that bike is more than you want to spend, I have a circa-Y2K Kona steelframe hardtail that I may be willing to part with. It is a no-nonsense solidly built trail bike that would get you out on the trails for not a lot of dough. I haven't really thought about how much I'd sell it for, but let me know if you are interested and I'll work up a price. |

If you're looking for a solid no-frills frame, they probably have something right up your alley. Hope this helps.

What's your budget for a bike? I might be able to put something together for you with Marin B-17 frame. A slightly different parts spec than below depending on what your budget is.

Does anyone have an idea on how much it would cost me to build up a used hardtail bike with LX drivetrain. I don't really know what else I would want on it but something that would stop when I braked and not fall apart when I went over a rock. I was thinking of just buying used parts and scrapping something together. What do you guys think?

You should be able to pick up a solid complete hardtail in your budget (used). |
