I have a friend that is still riding the original GT RTS F/S that he bought in the 90's. He is looking for a good FR/AM bike that will last him as his RTS did. He price Limit is $3500. Any suggestions???

Any of the high end frame companies that are selling completes now.
Santa Cruz Heckler (have one and LOVE it) Titis Motolite Turner (no kit that I know of, but could build one with that much coin) Yeti Chumba the list goes on.... |

Check out the Mongoose Khyber.
Won't break the bank, and as I've ridden one, very nice bike.

I would go with a Rocky Mountain Slayer SXC. I am more than pleased with mine.

I second the Khyber, I'd say Super level, Or the Teocali Super, Yeti 575, Intense 5.5 all are REALLY good choices.
At his price range it is gong to come down to suspension preference and shock options. I have ridden all of the above bikes and feel very comfortable on them. I will say that for me GT/Monsoose has a geometry that just feels natural. But the '08 575 and 5.5 are both a scream, and depending on your build can be aggressive xc rigs or light freeriders
