Default This is it!!!!

I think this is going to be my last bike for the next year. It'll put me at five and that's just starting to get ridiculous....still I just can't help myself.

My main objective this time around is to...well be objective. I have a good chunk of money coming my way and I want to make a smart purchase. The past few purchases have been at my loyal LBS but they're not really into the style of bike I'm looking for. Soooo that means I'm going to need a bit of help.

I know there are a lot of good shops around and I plan on checking them out for this purchase.

What am I looking for, you ask? Well I'm looking for a bike that can take some punishment. I'm really digging the 4x course at Fontana and love that rolling terrain and fun trails with jumps and maybe some stunts (I'm thinking of building a few at home) like Destroyers built around his place. I guess I'm looking for a good beefy freeride bike with no more than 6 inches of travel or so. It'll need to be a fairly complete bike since I'm a horrible mechanic (ie no skills) and impatient!

I've checked out and am kind of digging the following;
SC Blur 4x and Bullit.
Transition Bottlerocket (probably out of my price range) and Double.
Jamis Parker.

I really dig the single pivot or VPP tech but since that's all I've ridden I'm open to suggestions.

Help/Suggestions/hints are appreciated and welcome. It's looking like my price range will be $2000 to $2500 and I'll probably get it in a month or so.

So here's to a fun month of window shopping!!!!

Thanks for any input guys I appreciate it and sorry for the long post!!!!!

the parker looks like everything you could want. I cant say anything bad about my jamis and I've heard they have a great warranty department. You sure you want full squish for 4x ??? you can always pump up the airshock a ton otherwise

I would look for something light. Or at least focus on a light build kit.

How about this for $2400?

I don't think I'd race the full squish on 4x but it'd be sort of fun to screw around on the course with it and it'd be way more fun up in the rocks when we DH/Dig/Freeride after 4x.

I can't find the Parker any where so I'm not sure when its going to be released.

That Double is sweet too..it looks so....tiny! I wonder what size it is? BTW, Destroyer did you see the Lime GREEN Bottlerocket on Drop N Zone? I know how you love Green!

Hey don't look at me I'm getting my 5th bike!!!!!!

I want a Bottlerocket but it looks like it'd run me closer to $3000 or possibly more if I get a complete bike!!!! That's a bit too steep. That's why that Jamis Parker was looking so good, 2300 for the top of the line but I think its 36 pounds. The Double at 2400 isn't bad. I wonder if Beyond Bikes have any I could actually get my hands on...or The Path for that matter, they're the only two local guys who carry them. I'm not sure I want to mail order a bike I've never ridden.

Todd, what size is yours? We're close to the same height.

No, she's stripped down. I'll have the dialled this weekend. It'll come with a Chris King head set as well.
One of the tabs on the ISCG is damaged, but the chain guide mounts just fine.

It's in very good condition as I'm OCD about cleaning my bikes and gear and the bearings were replaced about two months ago.

JMAN, check out my web site and look at the 2007 race pics, bro.

I have 6 with my beach crusier and 20" plus my 3 dirtbikes and prerunner/white trash yard decoration (for right now) I think todd had a hard time getting that bottle rocket out of the guys at the path

Yeah I seem to recall him telling us that last week. The Bottlerocket would probably be perfect but the Double might be a close second...it just seems small and very dirt jump oriented. I wonder how it would handle on Stunts or some of the stuff on the hills at Fontucky. I'll check out the geometry tomorrow.

I doubt that either has any in stock, but I'm sure both can get them in stock.

Contact both and see which you feel more comfortable with. I think Tani (Path) is a wealth of knowledge and can probably answer any questions you've got!

Not sure if I'll make it tomorrow (I need to go try to make some money LoL).

My Rocket is a medium, but if you want any advice I'd shoot Allen an email at DropNzone. He really knows his stuff (especially when it comes to transition bikes).

A lady was riding one of those Double's at the 4x race today and they it looked pretty sweet. In the coming weeks I'll be calling/emailing/riding so I find exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for all the great advice. I'll let you all know which I get...and post pictures!

If (I) were looking for a new bike, (I) would want a bike that does it ALL (4X, XC, SD, FR, DH)! Only one bike "I can think of" that can do-it-all..

Note: If finishing 1st at XC or SD is your goal: A lighter wheelset may be a good idea. Other than that, I would race it the way it is!

No need to THANK me!

Dino the wheelset on there is fine...I would suggest some diff grips for Super D though. That's about it.
