Default Trunk rack or roof rack for a 2k1 Civic coupe

Hi all,

I'm looking for a roof rack or a Saris Bones rack for my 2001 Honda Civic 2dr. Let me know if you've got em.

Thanks,
Eric

I have a near new trunk rack but it's not a Saris. I think it's a Hollywood. It'll scratch your paint and look generally crappy but it gets the job done. $25 if you're interested. No worries if you're not.

I'd go roof on a civic all the truck racks I put on my old civic seriously messed up the bumper from the weight and I think your bikes are more secure on the roof

No kidding, You need at least a V8 and a 5th wheel to haul around some of those downhill bikes.

Thanks but I've got an old school Yakima trunk rack that has really annoying clips that I'd have to play tug o war with to get it tight. My buddy has a Saris Bones and its so effortless and very secure. Its just those crappy ass old school clips I hate.

Yeah, truck racks shouldn't be on a civic. I've put 3 bikes on my buddy's Saris Bones and it didn't warp my bumper. Our bikes are all hardtail aluminums and its probably not more than 100 lbs. As far as roof racks, it'll cost me close to $400 for a brand new setup. Thats a little out of my budget. Lemme rephrase that, its a lot out of my budget.

Roof rack experts, do I really need a stretch kit for my 2 door car? I had a coworker that carried his bike all the time and he didnt have a stretch kit on his car. All I'm using for this rack is to carry my bike and my buddy's bike and probably snowboards when I go boarding. What does the stretch kit actually do?

Anybody have used Q towers they'd like to sell me? Thank you.

It allows the pads of the rear bar to sit above the rear quarter window while still allowing the clip to clamp at the front window. It basically spreads the bars out for more stability. For a bike, you may not need it. For a kayak, definitely.

Thanks. Yeah, I dont think I'm gonna get a stretch kit. I've been searching all over the net in the last hour and I think I'm going with Thule. For used ones, its cheaper than Yakima.

What do the fairings do besides reduce wind noise?

It looks sportier and that's about it. If you got a sunroof, I don't think a fairing will help enough with the noise. It will also reduce your gas mileage 1-2 mpg but I'm not sure it's much better without the fairing though. That's why I stopped keeping the rack on the car full time. Then again it's hard to move it without scratching the paint. Now I only use it for the kayak or when I have to carry more than 2 bikes.

I have an Xport trunk rack with the Xport top tube frame extension for $30 if you are interested. However, if your Civic is equipped with a spoiler you can't use it.

Thanks. The only trunk rack I'm interested in is the Saris Bones. Leaning towards a roof rack now.

I have a Thule on my 2k1 4 door. I have Yakima and Sportsworks trays on it and it has worked great.

I have had the rack since 94 when I bought it new for a 95 Civic coupe. Never needed the stretch kit. Get a fairing for it. Positioned right it really helps the gas mileage.
