I have a Hopey steering damper that I planned to install, but never did, and I'm not sure if I ever will. It's new and never installed. It's for a standard 1-1/8".

I have been using one for years and I love them. To be able to use them you have to get a 12mm socket in from the bottom of the steering tube and torque to 18-24 ft lbs to get the headset preload. I have a Zoke 66 that I will not be able to use the Hopey on because hole in the crown where the steering tube is, is to small for the socket. You will also need to remove your headset because the flange mounts below the top headset.

Here are two options. I used the second, but the first one looks cleaner. Unfortunately, the pictures don't seem to be working on the second one at the moment. http://forums.mtbr.com/showpost.php?...4&postcount=20 http://forums.mtbr.com/showpost.php?...6&postcount=18

By the way, a 1/4" drive 12 mm socket is typically much smaller than a 3/8" drive socket.
Yes.

I bought a 2006 66sl off E-bay and took it to Garage Works to check it out, change oil and seals. They found a top end knock when the fork is full travel (7inches) because they work with Marzocchi, Marzocchi is sending out a new cartridge under warranty...good stuff, used fork two years old...so far impressed with Garage Works...better report when I get the fork back. Lee sorry about the hijack but Marshall helped me out with his links. Dean

Good to hear the positive feedback about Garage Works and Marzocchi. I know of Garage Works, but haven't heard much about them.

I got a Hopey steering damper lower cup installed on my Nicolai and its got Zokies 888RC2X on it. I never got the chance to install the whole system though.
Dean what you need is some Snap-On thin wall 1/4" socket which will cost you a fortune and will probably never use it again. |

The new price is shown in the original post (edited out the old price). The damper is tentatively sold; the person is supposed to pick it up on Thursday. If that falls through, I'll notify the next in line.

Dean, I was wondering how your steering damper has been holding up after the umpteenth maintenance. I keep forgetting to ask. I'm glad to hear that thing is still working. There is some very good usefull info on this thread. Thanks Marshal. Good luck with the sale Lee. |
