Default GT ZR1000 Road Bike

For sale, my beloved GT ZR1000 road bike.

According to a friend who was at GT when they were in Santa Ana, the story behind this frame is that it was a limited edition model that was made for special GT dealers at the time. He was able to get one for himself and me. The paint fades from a very deep and dark purple in the front to black in the rear. Unfortunately, it was hard to capture the fade in the photos.

Unfotunately, this bike has been used more as living room wall art than a bicycle. It has only about 1000 miles. I borrowed the cassette when I was building my DH bike, so I just installed a new cassette and chain. Also, the previous handlebar tape was a special type of tape from Pearl Izumi that was designed to work with one of their specific set of gloves. Because those gloves are no longer available, I just wrapped the bars in new Cinelli cork tape.

Frame: GT ZR1000, size 55 (I'm 5'11" and my buddy was 5'8" with the same size, and with different stem lengths, the same size fit us both reasonably well)
Fork: GT/Edge carbon (aluminum steer tube)
Headset: Chris King
Stem: GT
Handlebar: 3T Performa
Handlebar Tape: Cinelli cork
Shift/Brake Levers: Shimano Dura Ace
Brakes: Shimano Dura Ace
Front Derailleur: Shimano Dura Ace
Rear Derailleur: Shimano Dura Ace
Cranks: Shimano Dura Ace
Cassette: Shimano Ultegra
Pedals: Shimano Ultegra (I will include a new set of cleats)
Wheels: Mavic Cosmic Elite (very fast!)
Tires: Continental (only about 50 miles on them)
Seat Post: Race Face
Seat: WTB (I forgot the name, but it has titanium rails)

I will also include the Shimano Flight Deck computer.

Price is SOLD.

I am located in North Orange County.
If you have any questions, you can PM me here, or you can e-mail me at 2wheel-lee@sbcglobal.net.

Thank you for looking.

If I recall correctly, it is either a 1999 or 2000 model. It's hard to identify, because this paint scheme wasn't shown in any literature (except what may have been released to the dealers).

Don't rub it in! It's been hanging in my garage for the last year (only one ride on it), and I just recently concluded that I need to sell it.

Out of control.

The VPX will soon be for sale. I haven't ridden it since March...of last year.

So wrong...

Nice bike, albeit a "touch" stiff. I had a chance to take a friend's GT road bike out for a couple spins several years ago. I enjoyed the ride, esp after he installed the carbon post.

I've heard people say that, but although this could be under the thread of "things you notice," I went from this GT to a 2007 Specialized S-Works Roubaix (with the Roval carbon rims), and I honestly didn't feel a difference in verticle compliance. That was an expensive disappointment! I did notice that the GT has better lateral stiffness (desirable), and so out of the saddle sprints feel more responsive on the GT (the GT is a tad smaller than the Specialized, which could make it stiffer).

But if a carbon post seals the deal for someone, I think I have a Specialized carbon post that I will include (I'd need to verify that it is the correct size).

I have a Sawzall, and I can do "body" work, if needed. I can shorten the limbs, and with advances in medical technology, they can pin everything back together.
