my neighbor uses his hitch rack. Seems like a great idear to me.
I have a crappy little stand that just gets the back wheel off the ground so I can spin the cranks for deraileur adjustments. I think I droped an Andrew Jackson on it at Performance.

i'm mainly looking for a stand that'll hold from the tube or seatpost... it seems a more convenient way to go thru my bike build.

Yeah, that's what I figured. You know, I don't know where I saw it, but I saw a how-to for making one out of bar clamps. Take two bar clamps and a couple of c-clamps. Attach the non-clamp part of the bar clamps to a table or workbench with the c-clamps. Then you just set the top tube in the bar clamps.

You might want to look at this site. They have step by step plans of things you can build yourself.

One of my riding buddies in AZ did the following:
Took a regular step ladder and a old hardtail frame. Inserted the frame headtube first through the ladder where the tool tray comes out (second from the top), the head tube was supported by the step on the other side(also second from the top). He then wrapped bar tape around the hardtail seat and chain stays to not damage his bike. It looks horrific, but apparently it works. |
