It is a red crowned amazon. He is not totally hand tamed. We have a table next to its perch and it will fly off the perch on occasion onto the table and it will go right up onto your hand so I'm sure he just needs someone to spend more time with him. If you try and get him on your hand while he is on the perch or in the cage he will lightly bite your finger but he is not aggressive with it. Just show it no fear. He is very good about going into the cage at night. I have this water spray bottle that I just hold close to him and he goes right in the cage. The bubbs at the bird store pick him up like nothing and he doesn't freak out.

When I see people giving away pets because they have become inconvenient it always troubles me.

So you'd rather me keep it and have it get neglected then? Lame comment.

Better to find him a good home now before he becomes "inconvenient". He's not being dumped. Rob is making the best decision he can for him (I'd still choose birds over dogs). I'll cross post it him (have you had "him" DNA tested?) on some bird lists. It's a good deal for a young Zon with a cage and accessories. If you saw our living room, you'd know why I didn't already snatch him up.

My Advice, get rid of the 3 dogs. They are much more likely to be a problem with the new baby. They eat more, poop more, and carry more bacteria. They beg, bark, and lick their genitals then your face. They run in packs with their own social hierarchy.

Here's Pally and our nephew playing.

Where do you supposed he is in our pack?
Thats funny your bird is playing catch w/ the kid...the parrot throws the toy and the kid picks it up and gives it back...

I'll take the parrot off your hands..herd they taste like chicken...

Being a “bird person” myself, I hope whomever ends up with the Amazon doesn’t take it lightly. Please don’t anyone take it the wrong way, but parrots, especially the larger ones (Amazon / Grey / Cockatoo / Macaw), are incredibly demanding. Not a pet that you can leave with a bowl of food and head off to Big Bear for the weekend.

I wish you (TURNERob) and who ever ends up with the Amazon the best.
