Default Med to large Snowboarding Binding

I have an old Snowboard that I want to lend my friend to lean on because its super flexy and forgiving, but its has no bindings..if anyone has an old pair of bindings at home they are willing to sell for cheap, all I ask is that both heel and toe straps have decent ratcheting , beginners get tired and they ratchet really slow by the afternoon.

I also need some bindings, and boots. I am a size 10. After 8down takes his pick, somebody give me a deal! I am totally a newb, never snowboarded before, but I have a new board and need everything else. I can pay cash but prefer to trade, does anyone need a quick 6'1 from Oahu? I also have other stuff like tools and a welder I need to get rid of... Lets make a deal... I need to drive to the OC to give Neccros his racks anyway...

what does a beginner 5'8" rider need for board height? I've boarded before, but not much. I've skied my whole life though.

this is all my opinion and experience so....

so many factors go into determining board length. but as a beginner, your main concern is learning the basics...buy a board that is gonna give you a good learning curve and 1 or 2 seasons of riding of progression util you outgrow it.

i am a 208 year old hag, so i no longer do a lot of jibbing/park riding. that sort of riding tends to be twin tip and lighter/snappier boards that pop. now i'm more into going fast and haulin' butt and riding more natural terrain with natural jumps, etc. so i like a longer board with more sidecut, etc.

but, as a new rider who is 5'8" i would say that you need to start with a softer flex board that is easier to learn to turn on that is about 150-156 cm. not too short, not too long. and easy to manipulate when you're just learning. learning to stop and linking your turns is the number one step to learning how to snowboard. after that, it's all gravy...

Pat - Neil and I have several boards ranging between a 153 to 164, your more than welcome to come on up and give a try to a few. IMHO don't go any smaller than a 153. But strongly think if you have a chance to try before you buy, do it!

depend a bit on type of riding you do and type of terrain. Traci's size specs work but i would tighten it up a bit. would not hit 163 unless you riding in pow/big mtn or merely in park hittin some straight airs (bigger base nice for landing but a bit more difficult to spin).

I'm only a bit taller than you and typically ride a 156 - 158. use to have a 161 for powder days but that board met it maker and i neve replaced it

Dont get something too small as once you progress your gonna want something a bit longer and too long it gonna make it a bit tougher to learn.

Other consideration is board flex. two flexiy (park/jib) and your board is gonna chatter at speed on on harder park. too hard will make it tough to keep an edge while you learn.

Hope it helps a bit

Im 5 8 and started on a 151, it is short for my height, but it was given to me and I think cost like 150 bucks. 5 boards later, I ride a 156 now, after a few years of practice...I think you also want to look for a more flexible board so it's a bit more forgiving on poor form...work on your triceps and core, and you will have a pleasant first day. and get nice gloves.., wet hands=bad time

Just checked and I do still have the bindings. You can have them if you want them. Not sure what the size is, but it fits my size 10 boots without a problem. I think it's a Lamar, but I can't be sure. Not great, but ok as a spare for someone to try out boarding.
