Default EDIT: Race day XC hubs

Hey all. I'm looking for a nice lightweight HUBS that I can use for XC racing.
Lightweight is my priority over durability since they won't be used too often. I'm just looking to shed some weight off the 5.5 for racing.
Must be disc ready.
Thanks

WTB Laserdisc XC hubs are as light as anything out there. They are a licensed copy of American Classic hubs. They're not the most reliable, but they're not that bad. You can have a complete hand bult wheelset for under $400, and I bet under 1600g.

And I can personally vouche for their (Path built wheels) durability!

Default Beating on these for two years now....

Check out the Bontrager Race X Lite, approx. 1425g tubeless hoop w/centerlock disk. Hubs made by DT Swiss. Not cheap tho, MSRP $800. Good luck!

I have over 2000 miles on my American Classics and have yet to have one problem. I have even done the little drops on the top of the oaks with them and I still have my teeth. I do worry a bit, but they are light and rule for the climbs. The freewheel case is pretty soft though. Mine is geting pretty gouged up. It doesn't hurt anything, its just I have had to use a puller to get the cassette off a few times.

Digging around in my garage this morning I came across a set of Mavic XC717 rims! I totally forgot I had them! Now I just need some nice 'n light hubs and I'm all set.

Good point - same situation with the Bonti's.

You can get an XTR 965 (centerlock disc - 32h rear & 28h or 24h front) hubset at Nashbar right now for about $175.

I built up a set of the XTR 965 in 28h with Mavic 517 rims that came out to 1630g and they have been very strong. Total cost at that time was just under $300.

Nashbar usually has a good deal on either front or rear XTR hubs, but it's rare they have both on sale at the same time as they do now, but their not outrageously priced now either, but still a good deal.

When I bought the rear XTR 965 hub last spring, I got it from Jenson for $65 and paid more for the XTR front hub, but I saw them a month or so ago as low as $39 at Nashbar. Take your time and shop around and you can get some smokin deals on hubs.
