Default New Old Guy

Hi All
Lurker for awhile now I want to be a member

Im not new to mountain biking , Been doing it scents 1986 but after a bout with a poor fitting bike , I gave up riding in 2001 , At that time I had a bare frame that needed to be built-up but it took 2 yrs to get it rideable by then life had dealt a few blows , Final getting to ride again last year I was once again riding.
Problems now are Im WAY over weight and my legs are noodles and Im old making riding not so enjoyable...So again I stoped riding .....Until last week when I was looking at my bikes on the wall and got the itch,,,

Questions : How do I get back into the groove again , Lose some weight and enjoy the trails ?

Anyway Hi to all you so-cal members
and a special note : Watch out for that CPATCRASH guy
Hes way nicer then he appears

Welcome aboard.

You've been MTBing before, now go find a hill and climb it, you will get back in riding shape.

CPATCRASH sucks!

Just kidding.

Get out and ride. I'm in the same situation and can ride at varied times. PM me if you want to grab some miles. I'm in Tustin.

welcome back to riding...there's no easy way to do it, you just have to ride. I stopped riding for 3 years and got back doing it again and it's not easy, everything is sore etc but it goes away and soon you'll be flying around the dirt

Time in the saddle is all it is. I started riding two years ago and am now climbing stuff I could barely walk up when I started. I've kept myself in pretty good shape over the years but have still managed to ride off 35lbs.

Anyway, congratulations on getting back on the bike and welcome to a very cool site

Here is my diet and riding plan:

I posted this in a blog format to keep myself honest. Starting weight, date, time trial time (updated weekly) and what I ate. I update it after every few days that way I can't cheat myself so easily.

Diet: walk away hungry.
nothing after 7P.
Drink tons of water (you feel full).
Beer is rarely bueno unless I've put in at least an hour or four days of riding.
Go light during the week (salads or very light meals), you can play on weekends.

Riding:

Just ride. Got an hour? Get on the bike and pedal to no where in particular. Create a three mile time trial loop, time yourself weekly and watch for improvements. Ride hills one day a week and push yourself past the spot you stopped at the week prior. Find others who have the same goal set and push each other. Instead of internalizing stress (my thing from being a business owner), go for a ride on a stressful day. Ride the beach every couple of weeks, there is NOTHING like the motivation found at the beach. I mean NOTHING.

Just ride until your butt hurts, you'll be happier you did.

YO! To make it simple you just need to burn more calories than you take in. Maybe we need to meet in Sedona or something when you get your legs back. It would be great riding with you again!!! Oh yea. Sell the frame and get a road bike. More miles = less weight!

Peace out!

Oh yea... How can you be old when your younger than I am???

I don't think anyone can see in the pictures but the last two bikes are old school Chumba's.

Take a better picture of the frame and put it up on this site. Take some measurements as well. It is one of the origional Chumba Wumba's so someone may be interested.
