Default New to STR - Kern Rider (Lake Isabella)

I live and ride in the Kern area (Lake Isabella). Dig the local riding and I dig traveling to new areas.

Hope to see you guys on the trail or on rides.

Welcome!!

You've got some great trails up there. We just rode Cannell Plunge and Just Outstanding Plus a few weeks ago. Had a blast.

BTW, not to get OT but is it me or has there been a total influx of new members lately???

That 2000 member bbq is gonna be this winter

Bring your friends! We're supposed to have another BBQ for 2000 members and I missed the last one.

Let us know if you're ever in the OC, cause my sorry arse doesn't travel well (even worse when on the bike)

Things have been good up here. The cannel seems to have been discovered this year. I heard it was written up in a magazine. The kayaking was horrible this season so I have been riding a lot more. Its been great..discovering new trails/area. Funs stuff for sure.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Anytime you guys want to ride up here...drop me a line.

I havn't ridden anything in the Piutes...I should check it out sometime...it is right in my backyard.

I just got a dirt bike a month or so ago. I am digging it. Tons of fun.

Quick question for you about the piutes...Do you ride a dual sport or can you link up enough single track to ride loops legally with a green sticker?

Cheers

Sweet...can a local join on?

How big of a group do you have?

Are you planning on one day of riding or are you making a weekend out of it?

We'll be up for the weekend. I don't have all the details yet like campsite or trails we're hitting. I will be with a big group, don't know how many yet, but we just camped out at Hurkey Creek this past weekend.

Will this be an official WS campout? 6th & 7th?

BTW: Welcome Lake Isabella grasshopper. Always nice to have a good local resource.

Welcome to the madness.

How far are you from Fresno? Probably pretty far I bet, but my in-laws live in Fresno and it would make a nice escape if I could go riding for a day when we have to visit them.

The Piutes are my favorite place for singletrack moto trails by a wide margin. I'm sure you know that area is very remote and the trail network is a tangled complex web. Don't venture in there unless you are fully prepared. Being plated is a huge plus because you can drop down into town for food and gas and do long loop rides. But the trail network is fine on a green sticker bike. I hope to get back up there once more this season.

Its about 3 hours to Fresno from here. I would think your best riding option is near Bass Lake. I actually want to get up there to ride sometime.

Next time you are headed up the Piutes, drop me a line. I spent 3 days last week trail riding up at black rock station...fun stuff. I would love to check out the trails up in the Puites.

Are there any good trail maps that you know of for the area?

Thanks
Geno

Bass Lake is only an hour from my in-laws. Not a bad idea. I'll hit you up if we are headed that way.

Default Maps

Geno, if you go onto the Sequioa National Forest website there are good maps of the Piutes OHV trails. Look for the ones with the "route designation program". In the Piutes you have to use 1st gear a lot. It is steep and rocky. I have ridden all that stuff on my dirtbike and actually done a few MTB rides in the area. It is not as good on the MTB though because there is a lot of hike-a-bike.

I'll hit you with a PM ahead of my next Piute ride. I've gotten all the USFS maps, but found them difficult to use out on the trail. The terrain is very tight and I find it extremely easy to get lost. I use a GPS with tracks and waypoints accumulated over various past rides. I'm still a newbie to the area and have a lot of exploring to do.

My plan for next year is to do a combination MTB and moto camping trip to Landers. It would be a lot more remove than Kennedy Meadows and hopefully less crowded. Love the place, just wish it was closer to home!

Thanks Rob...I look forward to getting up there. My schedual is pretty flexible, so as long as I don't have another trip planned I am usually good to go.
