Default Another newb

Hello everyone. My name is Jason and I live in Fullerton. I have only ridden the Loop and I had to learn it by myself using some crap map I found on the internet coupled with some website that had some photos. (I think being a UPS driver helped me here) It took three rides for me to get it down and I find myself ending at a little park below the damn on Harbor? Anyways I started out on a dept store bike and by my fourth and most recent ride I have upgraded slightly to a Rockhopper comp. I really have enjoyed biking so far. If I can get off work early enough I may try and join the Thur ride (I don't have lights..ok during summer?). Strangely enough I am kind of a shy person when around strangers. Oh yeah, my gf Alyssa is buying a bike in next couple of weeks and will be joining me as well. Cheers!

I deliver in HB adjacent to Seal Beach weapons station off Bolsa Chica Rd. and Argosy. One of my customers who is a hardcore roadie got me into this and pointed me to Surf City Cyclery in HB which is where I bought my bike. I do plan on making the Sat ride. and hopfully the Thurs ride. My weeknights are dependant on my customers being ready so its hard to predict.

Jason

If you can't hit the loop on Thursday evening Be sure and hit the Neebie ride on Sat - It should be a nice intro to some other new riders of the dirt and loop.

PS - i think we're all a bit shy, but the STR group is a great group of guys and gals and then some..

Jason,

Why is it that the UPS guys in HB leave the stickie things, ring the bell and leave before you can answer, then won't come back, even though you call the stupid number within 5 minutes of them leaving???

Oh well, no hard feelings--want to go on a ride from Blackstar to Motorway?

Just kidding, you won't want to do that, even with more experience

On my route- 90+ signature deliveries (300-400 pkgs) followed by 45 pickups (500-600 pkgs) kinda puts you in a hurry...plus how can I make it to the Thurs ride if I have to go back to your house?

Blackstar to Motorway??? Forgive my newbness but what does that mean? Must be awful if you want to take the impatient UPS man.

Cheers

I actually on occasion have been seen on my route having lunch with the FedEx guy joking about how we both had the same customer mad at us for not coming back within five minutes of them calling the stupid 800 number after we left before they could answer.

Thanks to everybody for welcoming me. I will be there on Saturday.

Welcome to STR. Great folks here and you'll have fun on the Loop on Thurs. I can't make the newbie ride on Sat. I'll be doing Harding Truck Trail to Joplin with some not so new riders.

Welcome Jason, I hope that you can make it out to the Saturday newbie ride. It should be a BIG group of all levels. Maybe you can even bring out your gf as there will be other women newbies and she might feel better learning with other women. I ride with my wife and believe me she learns more riding with other women, even if it is the same stuff that I try to tell her she just is more receptive to tips from other women. Now she is hooked and she has all of her friends at work hooked.
