Default New rider in huntington beach...

As you can tell from the title i'm not much of an avid cyclist... yet but I hope to change that this summer as I will be riding a lot hopefully(i am a gym enthusiast so dont assume i'm a couch potato). Problem is I don't really know any trails except I guess El Moro (been there once a few years ago) and well thats about it. I have an 04 Specialized Rockhopper which is basically brand new-ish since i bought it a few years ago but I've recently started building it up and well its pretty well equipped haha But anyways... IF ANYONE IN THE AREA WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE THEMSELVES and maybe plan a ride it would be much appreciated. Oh the names Jesse by the way.

Hey Jesse. Most people call me Boats. Come on out to the fullerton loop Thursday night ride next week. It is a good starter for most people. If you click on the calendar tab there should be details there

Hey Jesse, I'm in HB as well. I believe there are a few others nearby, if not in HB, but I think those bums took a 4-day weekend (bastids )

When do you plan to ride? Days/weekends/nights?

Welcome!

You may like the Thursday night social rides on the Fullerton Loop, which is practically just up the street from you. They're not fast, and we regroup a lot.

I'm out of town this weekend.

Fullerton is just up the street? Just as Oceanside is just down the street
Are you taking into account traffic?

I may try to get Ashlie up there for part of the ride, sometime this summer (Thurs is my day off). Although, I'm not sure about the influence of you guys--good thing she's slower!

Dang looks like we got a good group of friendly people. Thats really cool now i don't feel like I'm going to get bashed for being a newb to this sport lol. Anyways I just finished my semester at OCC and i have the whole summer to start riding As of right now I'm sick and I've been taking it easy by not going to the gym and just staying at home to try to get better but I did go today. As for riding... I probably plan on riding on the weekends but if there are rides going on during the week i think I'd be down. I'm just scared that i might not be able to keep up with you guys because I've never ridden with experienced riders before.

Oh and as for that ride down to newport i just rode it for the first time (the bike trail) a couple of weeks ago with my sister (she was on her cruiser) and let me say eye candy galore But if you guys want to get a little group going to ride down there that sounds like a start for me. Oh also if you guys (or girls) have myspace add me www.myspace.com/integradriv3r I always check that so that would be the easiest way to contact me.

Ohhhhhhh... another thing: I just bought some crank brothers mallet c pedals with some pearl izumi shoes at performance in fountain valley but another member said thats not the best shop to go to (i too realize they don't have the highest quality brands) but does anyone recommend another shop in the orange county area?

ok that was long i'm done....

The thursday night rides are casual, social rides. We stop to regroup a lot. It's not a ride that's about going fast. We ride, we talk, we play around. The best thing you could do is ride with people who are faster than you.

So weekday rides are usually the most mellow. On the weekends, however, is when most of the hardcore riders do their hardcore rides, so that may a bit challenging. Having said that, though, not all of the riders here are hardcore, so try to keep an eye on weekend ride postings. Don't be ashamed to ask questions and take on a few challenges.

Performance isn't highly regarded among "those in the know." There are many great shops in OC, including The Path in Tustin, Switchback Cyclery in Orange, and The Bike Co in Lake Forrest. Now you're in the know.

Fully Loop Thursday May 31st @ 6:45

Follow this link or click on the event in the calendar tab to RSVP to the ride and it will show you the list of people who will be there. I'm going, so is Jared (Pakiha) and "That crazy guy who rocks the loop on the blue Iron Horse who I owe a beer to" (Dino Brown)

Adrenaline bikes in Orange is a good shop too.

For a closer shop, there's Surf City Cyclery in HB (on Edinger). When you go into any shop, don't be afraid to ask questions, and don't expect your bike back the next day

Not sure how long it took when I had a shimano Lx crankset installed on my rockhopper but turn around was quick at Performance.

Ah man, you're right! I haven't been to the shop now that they have a newer crew there (who mostly rides the loop on Thursdays with the group, and they're really cool to ride with). But I do remember that they had a large selection of inventory.
