Red face New to MTB'g. More Importantly..new to forum!!

Anyone have a 4 year old interested in riding? Brand spankin' new to all of this!! Any info for the novice? I have contacted LBS looking for intro classes (you know, how not to mame yourself MTB'g). So far no luck. Nothing Socal at REI. I recently invested in a pretty decent bike (06 specialized XC Pro, looking for classes, anything for the newbies to this awesome sport...??? Names/locations of local trails, reliable bike shops, beginner stuff. Thanks!

ok, i may be completely off on this, but you type very well for a four year old!

ok, all jokes aside... welcome to the site! most of the guys here are cool, just watch out for the crazy single speeders as there are a good number of them. Never go on one of those "easy" rides, you can never trust a mountain biker! scruffs classes are really good, i met a nice lady today that actually took one of his classes and she had great things to say about it.

good bike shops are the path, switchback, incycle, adrenaline (just for you neil) and jenson.

let us know what area you are from and we can set you up on some good beginner trails

And whatever you do remember one thing.........

Mountain bikers LIE

1. This is the last hill

2. Were goin easy today

3. Everyone does this huck

4. It's a real easy climb

These are just a few, you'll catch on soon enough.

Very nice entry level?? bike.

You could take him to the fully loop. Just watch out for that tree! (personal joke)

Other than the loop the only recomendation is that the wear pads because he will falll down. A lot

Welcome!

It's hard to tell from your post. Do you have a 4 year old who you want to get into MTBing?
If so, I would recommend Fairview park in Costa Mesa.
Fairly flat dirt. Fun snakey trails and nice little jumps.
My kids love it.

I second fairview park, when I take my kids I get a chance to practice balance & jumping off the bmx-type jumps. Plus the kids are 'going mountain biking with dad'

scb, welcome to the board. While you may find some classes, chances are, you'll still get a scratch or two

Schecky and Bob, thanks for the tip, I'll have to take my daughter there...she's 10, but still a bit too prissy to get real dirty (heeheeh). Where do you guys park? Off of Placentia?

Yep, off of Placentia. The parking is easy to see.

If you're further down in OC Aliso Woods isn't a bad place either. I wouldn't try any of the climbs (Mathis or Meadows), but the main road out to the trails has a little singletrack next to it, and there are some fire roads with singletrack's off to the side.

If you're ever over in Riverside or further south, Santa Rosa Plateau has some nice tame trails.

Enjoy!

I park off canyon drive, where the model airplane guys park. Also has a restroom right around the corner, good when you are with kids and they have to go....NOW!
